there are 2 reasons for saying korbonos. one is that chazal say if you learn korbonos its like doing them. the other reason is that with korbonos you can observe torah learning. so first we say the korbonos parsha in torah and then the mishna.

i like grape jelly on bread. i like grape anything. wine, raisins, juice, jello, jelly. also, blacks love grape flavor. they drink gallons of grape juice. and a huge supplier of grape juice to black areas is kedem, but they use the name medek and without a hechsher symbol.

Sara Schnerirer, with the backing and support of the Polish Rebbes of her time, founded Bais Yakov, whose mission was to teach girls the full spectrum of Torah. Chumas, Rashi, meforshim such as Ramban, Nach with meforshim, halacha and mussar. Her legacy continues as of now and has resulted in Torah true families by the hundreds of thousands all over the world.

Poilisher Rebbes before WW2 had a saying. Chazal say, Its better to walk in bck of a lion rather than in back of a woman. The rebbes interpreted it as such: Its better to do teshuva during the month of Av whose symbol is Ari, lion; and not to wait until Elul whose symbol is Besula, woman.

What did chasidim wear before the Bal Shem Tov and chasidic rebbes? Chasidim gave up their own “old lvush” to embrace the “new” chasidish clothing. Polish chasim gave up wearing the “kashketlech” of polish jews after WW2. I am chasidish but couldn’t figure out what’s to go and what’s to stay. Long payos arn’t really only chasidish. Yemenites all had long payos. Chabad chasidim mostly don’t have long payos at all and dress modern during the week. It seems its been pick and choose on what will be worn.

historically, the actual debate between rashi and rabbeinu tam was not which are the only kosher. cause then the question would be, what did people where 100 years before? the question mainly was which is the main pair type. almost everybody wore both. rashi said his was the main, to be put on first. after that most european decided one pair, rashi, was enough. sefardim mostly wore both, some st one time together.

the ari zl came ad said both should be worn, rashi first. so chasidim all wear both. chabad wears both after bar mitzva and some other chasidim do that too. all chasidim wear both after getting married.

A mumar l’teiovin actually does an aveiroh. He likes veal parmigian. He eats it, not to go against Hashem, but because he likes it. But he is still doing an aveiroh. The Orthoprax doesn’t necessarily do aveiros. He just doesn’t really care much about the practice of Torah life.

ground coffe has long ago gone away from 69 cent a lb. instant coffee is so much cheaper. a shul that serves brewed coffee is uppity, showing it can afford expensive coffee. i do know one very orthodox shul that has a keuring, it was donated. one member has a k-cup business and dnates all the k-cups. so that coffee is for free.

well excuse me if your uppity shul has brewed coffee. shuls that offer free coffee buy nestles tasters choice house blend because it generally the cheapest available.

in general, the concept of which is best can’t be considered since taste is not a debatable issue. anybody here can attest to their own taste. the issue was coffee in shul, which i had stated was tasters choice house blend.

You can’t make halachic decisions concerning social tenets from the Torah or Gemora. Slavery is sanctioned by the Torah yet nobody in their right mind would say that today slavery is OK. There was no concelt of democracy in those days anywhere in the world. And there is no way of knowing that when moshiach comes, what type of government we will have. Of course it will be in strict adherence to halacha and Torah philosophy. But until moshiach does come, democracy is the way to go.

in reply to: Where does shacharis start and end exactly #1152769

What some people do and think they did it correctly isn’t an issue. You asked when shacharis starts. it starts when shulchan orech says it starts. Shacharis strts at brochos, or ctully at “mah tovu”. The oart of korbonos and kitores is part of shacharis even if some people skip it. it is still part of shacharis.

shacharis ends with oleinu for nusach sfard and at the yom for the day for aschkenaz. Deciding that you have no time doesn’t mean that you davened completely. These are the times of a complete schacharis. Period. Halacha.

Since my bar mitzva I’ve worn a woolen beged on Shabbos and YomTov and cotton during weekdays. But that’s a personal chumra, although many men and boys do have that same chumra. It is not a chasidic custom as many chasidim will wear cotton and polyester on Shabbos too. A lot depends on peer customs and peer pressure. Especially in yeshivos.

I’m not sure what this question was meant to be. Of course buildings have columns. They wouldn’t stand if not. Cohanim, Leviim and Yisroelim.

Its practically impossible to personally contact the major chasidic rebbes by phone. that is like bobov and satmar. the minor rebbes, just get their phone number and call. although many minor rebbes won’t talk on the phone either. of course you can always talk to Hashem. He’s a fairly major listener.

Not to mix is a chumra that goes beyond Pesach chumros. Bnei Yisroel were supposed to have achdus to merit Yetzias Mitzrayim. The Gerrer chasidim minhag is to have seudas chaverim during chol hamoed. To invite your friends over for a meal. This is what will bring geulah and Moshiach.

the chachomim who made the kitniiyos gezeira did not deem cocoa or coffee beans as kitnoyos. cottonseeds arent either. the main idea was making flour. potatoes were almost assured but then european jews would have nothing to eat so it wasnt assured. sefersim didnt accept the gezeira so they do eat. rav abadi actually does make a borei pri ha’etz on chocolate but not on coffee.

all food stores sell their chometz over pesach. its been a general hungarian custom not to buy bread from even a yid who sold his chometz. selling chometz is a complete halacho. you want chumras? how about a chumra of being especially friendly and helpful to other people. and instead of being so careful of what goes into your mouth; be extra careful of what comes out of your mouth, speech, davening, learning.

in reply to: How to address the Rebbe of a Hasidut #1143718

If he isnt the rebbe of your chasidic sect. You say sholom aleichem, plain, thats it. Then you should introduce yourself. If you want, you can add your mothers name too. If you give him a kvitel, ten just state your name and surname and where you are from. Give him a while to read, then he will raise his face. At that point you can address any inquiries or requests. This is general protocol.

I fixed the ALL CAPS. Please don’t do that again.

There is an interesting Rabbeinu Tam in a tosfos in mesechta Beitza where the Rabbeinu Tam says, I don’t know where the people made so many chumras lately. I didn’t see any of this in my grandfather’s home (Rashi). Rashi himself says on the gemorah, that a heter is better because to be machmir you don’t have to know the real halacha, you just say ossur and that’s it. To give a heter you have to know the halacha clearly. My father z’l would say that a very big meikal is called a “kal”. Therefore a very big machmir would be called a “chamor”.

aspaklaria was a level of prophecy. all of the prophets “saw” their visions through aspaklaria se’eino meira, a vision that was perfectly clear. it was like looking through a dirty glass. but they understood it because they had a high level of spiritual intellect. moshe rabbeinu was at the highest level, aspaklaria she’meira. he could see as if it were clear as day. the word probably is aramaic.
