Shemona Esre L’Chupa. That’s what Chazal say. It’s always smart to follow Chazal.

Shemona Esre means married by that age. Not starting to date. So I’d say start dating no later than age 17.

Can you believe it? George W. Bush was President of the United States when the above discussion transpired.

Now the thread is mangled, with the OP 90% truncated due to failed CR “upgrades” over the years. But fear not tecno-warriors; you can still find the full original OP in the Wayback Machine.

akuperma: I think you’re overstating things. The Israeli Left, I don’t think, is more anti-religious per se, than the Israeli right. And the Israeli Chareidi public, despite whatever personal opinions they might Harbor regarding Arabs or the general political scene, at the end of the day they still take their cues from their Rabbonim and vote accordingly, as instructed.

Additionally, despite any misgivings, the Israeli Left would be more than glad to give the Chareidim the same things the Chareidim would otherwise get with a Likud coalition, in return for putting the Left into power after so many years of being in the opposition.

Dr. Pepper, I’ve been communicating with squeak using these two addresses since 2009 (though his last substantial reply was around the time Trump came down the escalator). Going from memory, I think, but aren’t certain, that one of the two is the same as what’s in the encrypted message.

CY: Sorry, I just noticed your post directed to me. I don’t recall when I first noticed your new thread, but the timestamps generally reflect the time the mod approved it for a regular post; I recall, though, that OPs/new threads have some weird behavior and the timestamp on the OP itself is different than the timestamp on the main page for the thread (until it gets additional posts on the thread.)

As far as it being objectionable, absolutely not; there’s nothing objectionable about it whatsoever.

Quick quote from Rabbi Dr. Benzion Twerski:

Every frum Yid benefits from the things that askanim do. From intervening with governmental matters, legal issues, dealing with yeshivos, getting streets blocked for various events, and others too numerous to mention, we all derive much benefit from what they do. Nearly all, or perhaps absolutely all, function selflessly. Hatzoloh, Shomrim, and Chaverim are totally volunteer staffed.

Rabbi Dr. Benzion Twerski is a renowned and much sought-after mental health professional who holds a Ph.D. in psychology from University of Pittsburgh. He lives and practices in Brooklyn.

MDD, why would anyone take seriously your “disagreements” with Rav Chaim, considering that you “do not accept everything Reb Chaim said”.

And what’s wrong to compare the Zionists to the Nazis, considering that the Zionists teamed up with the Nazis during the Holocaust to accomplish their mutual goals.

The Right supports protecting religious rights, bris mila, schechita, building shuls in residential neighborhoods, kapporos, wearing religious clothing in public, marrying our children at young ages, having many children, protecting us from minority violent criminals, educating our children in Yeshivos according to Torah standards rather than government standards, etc.

Whereas, it is the Left than opposes Jews on the above issues.

SQUARE: The Chareidi Olam has a much much less Shidduch Crisis than the non-Chareidi Olam. And within the Chareidi Olam, Chasidim, who have even greater stringencies on the inter-gender issues that you’re ranting about, have an even smaller Shidduch Crisis than other Chareidim who are less strict about it.

AAQ: Chazal give the story of Yochanon Kohen Godol as THE example EVERYONE needs to learn from. Namely, say Chazal, to NEVER think you’re “fortified” and safe, as you constantly pontificate.

“By this time, B’H the young person had about 15 years of Jewish schooling. Should we expect that they are able to fortify themselves by this time (I presume parents, friends and community did not abandon them)?”

Extremely foolish comment for multiple reasons. To take one, Yochanon Kohen Godol was the tzadik and Kohen Godol for 80 years when he became an apikorus tzeduki.

But he was fortified, you say!

The fewer divorces among the chasidim may be due to their having traditional marriages the way it was done throughout Jewish history, without them updating to an American romantic fairytale “marriage”.

Shimon hates Yiddishkeit. He doesn’t have a right to express his opinion here on Jewish topics.
