Do the Vilna Gaon’s gorel to decide whether to divorce your friend or whether to divorce your wife.
ujmParticipantShemona Esre L’Chupa. That’s what Chazal say. It’s always smart to follow Chazal.
Shemona Esre means married by that age. Not starting to date. So I’d say start dating no later than age 17.
January 2, 2023 1:39 pm at 1:39 pm in reply to: Differences between newspapers and Jewish news sites #2153055ujmParticipantYou should have an image blocker extension on your web browser. It isn’t hard to install.
ujmParticipantWhere’s Haifagirl when we need her?
ujmParticipantMy Christian neighbor.
ujmParticipantGadol: I take it that you’re not a student of American political history.
ujmParticipantI gave Mendel rides when he hitched.
ujmParticipantCan you believe it? George W. Bush was President of the United States when the above discussion transpired.
Now the thread is mangled, with the OP 90% truncated due to failed CR “upgrades” over the years. But fear not tecno-warriors; you can still find the full original OP in the Wayback Machine.
ujmParticipantYankel lived in Brooklyn at least since sometime in the 1980s.

The Israeli Left, I don’t think, is more anti-religious per se, than the Israeli right. And the Israeli Chareidi public, despite whatever personal opinions they might Harbor regarding Arabs or the general political scene, at the end of the day they still take their cues from their Rabbonim and vote accordingly, as instructed.
December 28, 2022 12:10 pm at 12:10 pm in reply to: Threading the Needle on Social Issues in the New Coalition #2152105ujmParticipantAdditionally, despite any misgivings, the Israeli Left would be more than glad to give the Chareidim the same things the Chareidim would otherwise get with a Likud coalition, in return for putting the Left into power after so many years of being in the opposition.
ujmParticipantHe was niftar a few years ago. He was very sad about the fact that he couldn’t get married.
ujmParticipantGadol: Are you sure you didn’t go by the name sammygol in one of the previous of your nine lives?
ujmParticipantHe was often in Chaim Berlin. You could also find him at many Simchos recording the event on tape.
December 27, 2022 3:22 pm at 3:22 pm in reply to: Threading the Needle on Social Issues in the New Coalition #2151917ujmParticipantakuperma: The reverse side of your point is that the Chareidi religious parties can enter a coalition with the Left, and leave Likud out in the cold.
ujmParticipantDr. Pepper, I’ve been communicating with squeak using these two addresses since 2009 (though his last substantial reply was around the time Trump came down the escalator). Going from memory, I think, but aren’t certain, that one of the two is the same as what’s in the encrypted message.
ujmParticipantReb Eliezer, it depends whether you’re Orthodox or not. (I assume you’re Orthodox.)
ujmParticipantCY: Sorry, I just noticed your post directed to me. I don’t recall when I first noticed your new thread, but the timestamps generally reflect the time the mod approved it for a regular post; I recall, though, that OPs/new threads have some weird behavior and the timestamp on the OP itself is different than the timestamp on the main page for the thread (until it gets additional posts on the thread.)
As far as it being objectionable, absolutely not; there’s nothing objectionable about it whatsoever.
ujmParticipantDr. Pepper, I’ve had the practice of emailing him a few times a year, before each Yom Tov, over the last decade. (And cc:ing it to his alt email, in case he didn’t check the other.)
ujmParticipantBill Clinton set the record for a lying politician. He was disbarred while in office, in addition to having been impeached for perjury.
ujmParticipantQuick quote from Rabbi Dr. Benzion Twerski:
Every frum Yid benefits from the things that askanim do. From intervening with governmental matters, legal issues, dealing with yeshivos, getting streets blocked for various events, and others too numerous to mention, we all derive much benefit from what they do. Nearly all, or perhaps absolutely all, function selflessly. Hatzoloh, Shomrim, and Chaverim are totally volunteer staffed.
Rabbi Dr. Benzion Twerski is a renowned and much sought-after mental health professional who holds a Ph.D. in psychology from University of Pittsburgh. He lives and practices in Brooklyn.
ujmParticipantGadol: There’s at least one famous picture of one of the gedolim playing chess on nittul nacht.
ujmParticipantSend him to DailyKos, where Dr. Charlie Hall will fix him good.
ujmParticipantWhen your opponent forfeits the game, you win by default.

ujmParticipantCheckmate.
ujmParticipant“They even wouldn’t mention Yom Ha’atzmaut.”
They wouldn’t mention Christmas either.
ujmParticipant“It would be better” isn’t “speaking out” against.
ujmParticipantDaMoshe: Your ideas from where you’ve “studied the arguments between the early chassidim and the misnagdim” that you’re expressing here come from the secular academics who hate Torah Judaism and invented falsehoods on all this.
ujmParticipantMDD, why would anyone take seriously your “disagreements” with Rav Chaim, considering that you “do not accept everything Reb Chaim said”.
And what’s wrong to compare the Zionists to the Nazis, considering that the Zionists teamed up with the Nazis during the Holocaust to accomplish their mutual goals.
ujmParticipantPirkei Avos has the answer to this question.
ujmParticipantIt means the fellow who is yelling troll violently disagrees with the comments of the poster he’s calling a troll.
ujmParticipantYseribus: Agreed 100%.
ujmParticipantCY: Try again. Perhaps tone down anything perceivably objectionable.
ujmParticipantcatch yourself: what was the subject of it?
ujmParticipantThe Right supports protecting religious rights, bris mila, schechita, building shuls in residential neighborhoods, kapporos, wearing religious clothing in public, marrying our children at young ages, having many children, protecting us from minority violent criminals, educating our children in Yeshivos according to Torah standards rather than government standards, etc.
Whereas, it is the Left than opposes Jews on the above issues.
ujmParticipantSQUARE: The Chareidi Olam has a much much less Shidduch Crisis than the non-Chareidi Olam. And within the Chareidi Olam, Chasidim, who have even greater stringencies on the inter-gender issues that you’re ranting about, have an even smaller Shidduch Crisis than other Chareidim who are less strict about it.
ujmParticipantYo, is this a Christian thread?
repaired
ujmParticipantThat old canard again?
ujmParticipantChabad is “Heimish”?
ujmParticipantYO (Ye): You’re still counting based on the years of Yushke?
ujmParticipantWell said.
Yasher Koach
ujmParticipantHaGaon HaRav Ephraim Wachsman shlita and HaGaon HaRav Avrohom Schorr shlita are about the same temperament and hashkafa?
ujmParticipantAAQ: Chazal give the story of Yochanon Kohen Godol as THE example EVERYONE needs to learn from. Namely, say Chazal, to NEVER think you’re “fortified” and safe, as you constantly pontificate.
ujmParticipant“By this time, B’H the young person had about 15 years of Jewish schooling. Should we expect that they are able to fortify themselves by this time (I presume parents, friends and community did not abandon them)?”
Extremely foolish comment for multiple reasons. To take one, Yochanon Kohen Godol was the tzadik and Kohen Godol for 80 years when he became an apikorus tzeduki.
But he was fortified, you say!
ujmParticipantHe doesn’t have to ask a woman. There are more appropriate and effective ways to accomplish the goal better, more efficiently and, most importantly, more Halachicly appropriately.
ujmParticipantThe fewer divorces among the chasidim may be due to their having traditional marriages the way it was done throughout Jewish history, without them updating to an American romantic fairytale “marriage”.
Shimon hates Yiddishkeit. He doesn’t have a right to express his opinion here on Jewish topics.
ujmParticipantThank you for sharing your boich svara.
ujmParticipantI see that Rabbeinu Ha”Gadol” has already given the correct teretz.
Future doros will learn from these teshvos.
ujmParticipantGoogle remember your previous manually typed words. When you type something similar in the future, it’ll suggest your custom database of words, even if it isn’t an official English word.
