AAQ: The idea of asking women to marry later is way off base. With the current issue of a solid percentage of women not being able to get married altogether due to a shortage of men to marry, any woman asked to wait to get married will recoil in horror and panicked fear that a delay may be an indefinite one. From her perspective, the best shot at avoiding being left at the altar with no one, is to get married as early as possible (much like Chazal say and is the Torah way.) She will not accept any suggestions from anyone to delay marriage for an alleged societal benefit, but to her great indefinite detriment.

AAQ: Do we have examples of Klal Isroel using polygamy as an emergency solution? Or at least, at the times before R Gershom increasing polygamy from a rare occurrence to a frequent practice?

No one suggested making polygamy a “frequent practice”. Even permitting it on an infrequent basis, as needed only with rabbinical approval, can alleviate the disparity in numbers. If even a small percentage of husbands took a second wife, that should correct the current imbalance to a great degree.

This is new? Its been like this for a thousand years. It isn’t unique to us, either.

    Mr. Nodel:

The Holocaust alone outweighs ALL the Arab atrocities *combined*.

The Crusades alone outweighs ALL the Arab atrocities *combined*.

Tach V’tat alone outweighs ALL the Arab atrocities *combined*.

The Inquisition alone outweighs ALL the Arab atrocities *combined*.

And the above are just four examples. Stop being a Christian/European apologist.

And like mentioned previously, do not forget the European destruction of Yerushalayim and the Bais Hamikdash.

This doesn’t sound like Judaism at all. It sounds like a newfangled religion, such as Reform, Conservative and Reconstructionist, that falsely advertises themselves as Judaism.

For the greatest contrast of the difference between living under Muslim rule versus living under Christian rule, simply contrast our experience living in Muslim Spain versus our experience in Christian Spain after the Christians ousted the Muslim rulers from Spain.

The golden age of Jewish Arab relations came to a screeching halt once the Zionists came to the scene (starting in 1898 and in full swing by 1917) and announced their plans to take over the Holy Land.

In the 2,000+ years Jews lived under Arab and Muslim rule, I don’t think even cumulatively all the Arab/Muslim violence inflicted against us added up toany one of the following European/Christian violence against us: 1) the Crusades 2) the Inquisition 3) Tach V’tat OR 4) the Holocaust.

That’s not to mention that blood libels the Christians came up with every Monday and Thursday, the programs every few decades, the expulsions from so many different European countries, spread generations apart, every Christmas year after year when the priests would set the Christian masses aflame against the local Jewish population (hence nittul nacht), forcing the local Jewish populations to pay the current ruler tremendous amounts of money that couldn’t be met just for the opportunity to live under their bloody rule and so so many more crimes against Jewish humanity every year.

Don’t forget that it was the Europeans coming from Rome that destroyed the Beis Hamikdash. And the Christian church that accused world Jewry of being collectively guilty of deicide, of “killing g-d”, and thus justifying their most bloody and repeated attempts of genocide against Jewry.

No Jews have been treated well anywhere in Golus.

That’s what Golus is about. Hashem is reminding us we are not at home. (No, not even in Israel; that’s part of Golus too, today.)

That all said, however bad the Muslims treated us, the Christians and Europeans treated us far far far worse than the Muslims and Arabs ever did. Compared to the Christians/Europeans, our times in the Arab/Muslim lands was a comparative paradise, on a relative basis.

“What is the divide between Conservative and Orthodox on ideology?”

N0m: Here are some random examples, to answer your question:

    Conservatives:

Homosexual activity is ok; homosexual “unions” are okay.

Being Mechallel Shabbos is okay to drive to temple.

Women so-called “rabbis” is a thing.

    Tznius is not a thing.

    Shomer negia isn’t necessary.

It’s okay to eat treif when traveling.

Avira, the Vilna Gaon wrote that his two biggest regrets in life was his failure to 1) instate saying Birchas Kohanim during the week in Chutz L’aretz and 2) end the cherem against polygamy.

Rav Avigdor Miller also said (it’s available in his voice on his tapes and is printed in one of the recent Seforim from him) that if the Gedolim today thought it necessary, they could end the cherem against polygamy.

Also, Avira, regarding your second point, if a girl was (say) 45 years old and never married despite trying hard (as so many r’l are), I think a nice number of that demographic would consider it if it were acceptable in Yiddish society.

Name any real posek who ever said it’s okay to choose to not be married by age 24 for a Torah learner, or that it’s okay to choose to not be married by age 20 for a non-learner. Or that you don’t have to make every possible effort to be married before those ages.

Apologies. The poll is regarding the age to start dating, not necessarily being married by. So the comment should be that the results are over 20% of the Yidden hold a bochor should start dating by time he’s 19 years old. And a majority hold that they should start dating no later than by 21 years old.

Also, it is very important to remember that Chazal say to be married by (not to just start dating by) age 18. And actual obligatory Halacha is that you are required to be married by age 20. The only possible exception, and only if you’re learning Torah full time, some shittos will allow you to wait up to a mandatory maximum age of 24 to be married by.

You are halachicly obligated to get married by age 20 according to the Shulchan Aruch. Or, according to some shittos, by 24 if (AND ONLY IF) you are learning Torah full time.
