Wow, this post really grew:) but it is a serious discussion..I posted originally because my family of 5 ,one person has a very specific diet which does cost more (3 kids, 2 of which are teenagers) spend approx $350 a week on groceries including Shabbos, at least. You definitely can’t go by the national average or the food stamps chart etc because a Frum family has alot more expenses in general. While spending $300, $400, $600 a week IS alot, for some situations it is necessary and NOT a luxury…

Takes2totango– HOW DARE YOU?? Who do you think you are making a claim like that which is preposterous! HaRav Avigdor Miller Zt”l was one of the greatest tzaddikim of our generation and an anav and temimusdiga person and everything he exuded was of that nature. There are always followers of anybody who may not be an image of who they are following, but for the overwhelming majority of Talmidim of HaRav Miller Ztl they are very much like HaRav Miller Ztl was (and I Davened in his Shul for 15 years)

Because its a ridiculous law! I know a story of an American man who got imprisoned in EY bc his wife kvetched to the Israeli courts when he happened to be in EY, and he is a decent guy who is just trying to get visitation with his kids..Its a foolish law bc alot of the time it isnt warranted

“ZD: I agree with your comment. Have a CS milk dated “Sell by October 14” that is still tasting fresh.

T22T: To my knowledge Pride of the Farm is not available in the stores in the 5 boroughs (might be in Lakewood). Of the common brands found in Brooklyn, Golden Flow milk probably lasts the longest.”

I dont live in NYC and they actually do have pride of the farm avail here

TO set it straight, I am going thru a medical issue which is very physically painful, and aside from taking pain med, the food I used to eat would give me ,albeit momentary, comfort

“What is so hard with keeping Cholov Yisroel? If you can keep Kosher which is harder to keep(complex Halachos etc.), it should be a piece of cake keeping Cholov Yisroel. Also, there is a wide variety of CY products, so a lack of options is not an excuse either.”

First of all everyone is different as far as what is easy and difficult for them, that is subjective. As far as getting cy, Its not a matter of not being able to find cy products. I need it for menucha right now,and truthfully, no there isnt Everything avail in CY

Its a mussar haskil, the Cubs won their fist world series in 108 years!, their fans were waiting and waiting and are so happy now..BUT in a few days it wears off and its old news and doesnt give a person any real satisfaction, unlike Torah and Mitzvos and serving Hashem which does last and give real satisfaction

Wealth does not equate to happiness HOWEVER if a person is struggling and cannot make ends meet and this causes distress for him and for his family on a regular basis, then YES money can buy the happiness he needs, but it does not automatically eliminate regular problems

Uber and Lyft are amazing! I know in Brooklyn regular car services are plentiful and the wait usually isnt long, But out of town a regular taxi can take forever to come, and with Uber or Lyft is is usually no more than 5 minutes and the same price or cheaper, PLUS alot of times you can get a coupons for FREE rides for referring someome etc.. I just got Ten $5 credits on Lyft..All in all its a great service

In Baltimore here, almost everyone puts chairs out..In my opinion, if you spend hours of backbreaking work digging out you have a right to put a chair there..at least for a few days or so.

When I moved to Baltimore from NY I never knew of that concept, however in NY people would prob just move your chair and take the spot, and I dont blame them since parking is hard to find in NY

He has the guts and strenth to actually to something positive no matter what his opponents say. Is he a little over the top? yes. Is he a big shot/baal gaavah? def yes. But that is really irrelavent for a presidential candidate

I remember walking in Brooklyn that morning at around 9am and it was eerily quiet except for the endless sound of sirens far in the backround..Shortly after, not knowing what happened yet, I went into Moti’s on 16th ave to get breakfast and about 20 people were crowded around the counter looking at the news of the towers on fire..a few minutes after the towers collapsed there were tens of thousands of pieces of paper flying sidesways through the street and you could actually read the words on some of them (these were papers from offices in the towers)..Plus looking down ocean parkway towards the city was a plume of smoke for days after..Unreal day

147, you answered me: “justsmile613:- Even I know that Israel is just about the safest place on earth, and in Israel I have no problem letting my very young children go out alone and on public transportation, and even very late at nite. …. No way in Baltimore.”

Dont know what bad exp you had in Baltimore, and Im sorry you did. But it is an incredible, close, amazing Frum community with EVERYTHING you need for a frum life and while some parts are not the safest in the world,in general it is comparable to other US communities. The reason Baltimore gets such a bad name somethimes is because of west baltimore. But no frum person lives anywhere near there. In NY you have inwood, harlem, In NJ you have Newark. In Cleveland there are bad neighborhoods etc, but dont misguide other people who dont know anything about Baltimore. I grew up in NY and when I moved here didnt know much about Balt, but learned quickly what a special community it is.

..Just to second something in “workingmom”‘s amazing post – Baltimore’s gashmiyus level is WAY WAY below the typical frum place, and not because people dont have. There are many wealthy people in Bal,t but they choose not to flaunt it.

“Any Jew who hasn’t already evacuated Baltimore is being Mevatel a Mitzvah Asseh de’Oraisso of “veNishmartem Me’od leNafshosechem” each & every second that s/he is remaining in Baltimore”

147—-total shtus and Loshon Hara! You obviously dont know anything about Baltimore. When outsiders look at Israel and see things going on they are frightened to go but in reality it is fine–Baltimore is B”h relativly safe. Bottom line is, we are in Golus.

I also challenge you to find a more cohesive community than Baltimore frum community, the achdus here B”h is incredible, not to mention chesed and everything else you need, plus much BETTER quality of life than alot of other places..As far as the carpool issue you mentioned, I will take that over ny traffic anyday.

vochindik–I live “in town”=passaic:)…..btw, just for the privilege of being able to make a right turn on red in NJ is worth living out of NYC. period. Whenever I am driving in nyc, my nerves get frayed from waiting for all those lights, it is really less stressful living out-of-town because of that in general (i lived in brooklyn for many years also)

yentingyenta—-you way, way off. I live in Passiac…There are MANY houses available for between $200k-$350k, 400-500 are around too but that was the bottom price 5-7 years ago. The property taxes one issue though, they are avg bet $6k-$11K/yr.
