I was flipping through the magazine looking for the cover story. When I saw in big letters “5 reasons you are not married”, I thought I found the article. It took a little more reading to figure out it wasnt the article I was looking for. The juxtaposition of the ad and article is just too funny.

Many, many every day products are gluten free. Many Chex cereals are gluten free, as are Fruity and Cocoa pebbles. 70% of Heinz products are gluten free. Any major supermarket has all sorts of products that are certified gluten free. If you live near boro park you should pay a visit to the gluten free shop on 16th ave or heavenly mills bakery on new utrecht. both have websites as well.

“Wheat is often used as a binder or in the coating on a pill.”

For this reason, stay away from all cold cuts until you check with the manufacturer. Of the Empire products we looked into, none used wheat (if it is kosher lipesach all year , they likely never use wheat, or any other grain that contains gluten). Other popular brands do.

Someone has a sense of humor. The 4 page advertisement for the Amuka segula appeared in last weeks issue of AMI magazine, which had a cover story “The Shidduch Crisis” (which interviewed those behind the recent advertisements and kol korehs about close in age marriages, boys marrying younger etc…).

    In the nudist colony, perhaps.

If a company felt it could make more money by becoming “more kosher”, they would do so in a heartbeat. They are in business to make money. Sometimes changing hechsherim is not as simple as signing a new contract, it may mean completely changing the manufacturing process, or replacing essential ingredients.

I dont think the naming of specific hechsherim was called for, or appropriate as it relates to the original question.

The payroll tax was 6.2%, lowered as part of an economic stimulus plan a number of years ago to 4.2%. It got extended several times. It did not get extended for 2013. In short, the tax holiday is over. Of course, if you are only paying this tax for a couple of years, you never knew it was higher to begin with. I think it was above 8% at one point.

Can anyone articulate the arguments for and against accepting these boys into the yeshiva? Health argues “they are jewish boys and deserve a jewish education”. The yeshiva clearly disagrees, have they articulated their opinion? If anyone knows it, would they share it? (Note: I am not “taking sides”, just asking if anyone knows both sides).

“Witness who runs the diamond districts in New York and Europe. Witness B&H Photo, etc.”

Kein Yirbu. However, these are not arguments against what ZD was saying. Also look at the social services agencies that service these very same groups. Look at the number of families enrolled in all sorts of programs from snap to medicare.

“Chasidim do it very well. So can you.”

How “grown up” must a couple be if the only obligation they have is to make sure they come home to the right apartment every night.

Back to the NK. I think if he wants his sons in the local beis yackov or whatever it is called and his girls in the local cheder, then they should accept them with open arms. As long as his boys wear the appropriate beis yackov uniform and the girls wear the appropriate cheder levush, all should be ok.

DY. I was denied entry into a yeshiva (almost 30 years ago) because my father wore a straw hat to my farher. It is not a far fetched concept, and is certainly not unheard of. I wouldn’t say it is as common as he implies though.

This is from the more outrageous statements to appear on YWN in some time. If it wasnt so ignorant, it might be inflammatory.

If one would pull together in one place all definitions of “yeshivish” that are found in the coffee room, I have a feeling that just about the only ones who would qualify as yeshivish, are penguins and morticians who shave their heads.
