I dont know about the law in Lakewood, but I suppose one can look it up. If this incident took place in NYC…..

(On street Parking) (4) Parking prohibited. When parking is prohibited by signs or rules, no person shall stop a vehicle, attended or unattended, except temporarily for the purpose of and while expeditiously receiving or discharging passengers or loading of unloading property to or from the curb.

    (A) Such person is, or is transporting, a handicapped permittee and displays a state special vehicle identification permit issued by the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles or

    (C) Such vehicle displays a special license plate or parking permit issued by any governmental entity subject to the laws of the United States, or a foreign country for the purpose of granting special parking privileges to people with disabilities.

(ii) Handicapped plates or permits issued by New York State or by any other state, district, territory or other governmental entity or foreign country shall be valid only in designated off-street parking areas. They are not valid in on-street parking areas.

    (o) Permits. For purposes of this section, a “permit” is the authorization granted by the Department to qualified individuals for special parking privileges as set forth in this subdivision. At the discretion of the Department, a permit may be represented by a permit card inscribed with information that describes the specific parking privileges it authorizes or by an IVPS programmed to contain the same information. Where this rule states that a permit must be displayed in the vehicle, a permittee using a permit card must place it in the appropriate place in a vehicle; a permittee using an IVPS must activate the system before so displaying it, in order to authorize parking pursuant to the permit. The registration numbers of the electronic component, the electronic debit card, and all related windshield stickers comprising an IVPS must match in order for such system to be considered properly activated.

    (1) Permits for people with disabilities. (i) Authorized parking areas. An operator of a vehicle bearing a valid New York City Special Parking Identification permit may park:

    (A) in any “No Parking” zone, including those marked “except authorized vehicles,”

    (B) in any “No Standing Except Authorized Vehicles” zone,

    (C) at parking meters without using an authorized payment method, and

    (D) in “No Standing Except Trucks Loading and Unloading” zones.

Such special parking permit shall be displayed so that it is visible through the windshield. An IVPS must be activated to authorize parking.

(ii) Prohibited parking areas. Such special parking identification permits do not authorize parking:

    (A) in a bus stop,

    (B) in a taxi-stand,

    (C) within 15 feet of a fire hydrant,

    (D) in a fire zone,

    (E) in a driveway,

    (F) in a crosswalk,

    (G) in a no stopping zone,

    (H) in a no standing zone, or

    (I) double parking.

The City of NY hosts a website that contains the entire administrative code that governs the city. If you ever have a need to board a pedicab and want to know where it is legal to do so, the administrative code is the place to go.

The relevant link for blocking a private driveway of a single or 2 family dwelling is here http://72.0.151.116/nyc/AdCode/Title19C1_19-169.asp?zoom_highlight=blocking+a+driveway

If you want to park in front of the shul, ask the shul to petition the city for a “no parking except authorized vehicles” sign to replace the current “no parking anytime” sign and then head over to pbas house where he/she will be happy to sell you a placard with such authorization for $500. I’m sure he/she will argue that all yidden have a right to visit the ribbono shel olam and are authorized.

“You think what the judge did causes sincere respect?”

The judge is not responsible to teach the girl respect. Her parents are. His job is to preserve the dignity and decorum of the courtroom. He did. You didnt see any other kids waiting for their hearing mouth off, offer snarky responses or otherwise treat their court hearing as if it was a trip to the ice cream store, did you?

As for the american legal system. You appear to be stating that since it is not a halachic system, it is a corrupt system that has no legal authority and should not be respected. Please correct me if I misunderstand you.

DR. You do not show up to a hearing in court, high, reply to the judges questions with snarky and sarcastic answers and expect to get away with it. when the stupid behavior got her bond doubled she flipped off the judge and cursed him. that got her the 30 days.

for what its worth, the girl was back in court. in front of the same judge. She apologized to the judge and her parents for her outrageous behavior and her sentence was dismissed.

this time, she walked out of court with her lips zipped tightly shut.

“If its just about contempt of court then standard punishment is 24-48 hours.”

No it isnt. Google the name Myron Farber. Or Elizabeth Morgan. President Clinton while serving no jail time, was fined over $90,000 for contempt and faced being disbarred in the state of Arkansas (he bargained it down to surrendering his law license for 5 years).

Someone who is charged with criminal contempt (as was this girl) is guaranteed the same rights as all others charged criminally, including the right to counsel, the right to put on a defense, and the right to a jury trial in certain cases. Charges of criminal contempt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. However, jail time for contempt can begin immediately, before the contempt charge is adjudicated and the sentence decided.

So, this girl, if she so chooses, can have her day in court. who knows, she might win and sue for lots of money and buy even more jewelry thats worth, you know, lots of money.

Did anyone watch the entire proceedings? the local nbc affiliate has a 5 minute clip of the entire proceedings.

    apushatayid

The girl was arrested for possession of “Xanax bars” (prescription drug abuse). She crashed her bike and told the cop she was high on the Xanax. Her appearance in court clearly showed she had zero respect for where she was, the way she answered some questions might lead you to believe she thought the whole thing was a joke (watch the video on the web page of the local nbc affiliate). As she was leaving, in a deragatory manner she told the judge “adios”, he called her back and doubled her bond at which point she uttered the expletive. After the expletive is when he called her back and gave her 30 days. Reminds me of the chris rock video, what to do when pulled over by a cop.

I heard (am no expert in his teshuvos make such a claim) that R’ Moshe z’l used the term rabbi when referring to members of non orthodox clergy. Orthodox clergy were called Rabbonim.

The title rabbi really means nothing these days. I am routinely called rabbi by the homeless who solicit change outside the building where i work and the kenyan dry cleaner where I have my cleaning done.

Health. I read the entire thing. The father is doing nothing to ensure his kids are raised “normally”. he is using his kids as pawns, nothing more, nothing less. The schools are taking out their fear of the father on the kids too. Why is he in belgium to begin with? what is his connection to belgium?

“they sit on the ladies side before all the ladies even are all on,”

This is not unique to a bus. The Rav of my shul was very adamant that men not sit in the ezras nashim during the week when ladies are not in shul, yet there are those who persisted in theis behavior. It got to the point where the Rav instructed the shammas not to turn on the lights or the heat in the ezras nashim to “encourage” all the men to sit on the “mens side”. There are still men who go straight to the ezras nashim, and daven in the dark and the cold. I guess they just dont like being in shul. At least they “chap a minyan” on the bus.

Noone is on welfare. Ultimately, the ribbono shel olam is the one who decides who has what. he also arranges the shliach. if he wanted the government to turn you down or otherwise reduce benefits to you, he can have it arranged. nobody has a penny more than they should have, unless they excercise their bechira and obtain it illegally.

Your right. Forcing his sons into an all girls school and his daughters into an all boys school is the way to ensure they turn out “somewhat normal”.
