“have the main ingredients society views as those that most people strive for in life”

Society is messed up. Don’t use it as your guide.

The Audio Home Recording Act establishes that it is legal to make copies of audio recordings for non-commercial personal use. (See USC 17.10.1008, amended by the Audio Home Recording Act.)

There is no such thing as a kosher college. All the more worse for women.

We don’t know exactly what Rav Solomon, shlita said. Let’s please keep him out of the discussion.

From another thread, quote and reply posted by popa_bar_abba:

If a mother tells her daughter to do something and that something is NOT against halacha, the daughter is obligated to do as her mother asks, out of Kibud Av v’Eim.

This is highly questionable. It is not at all clear that you are supposed to do something your parent wants when it does not directly affect the parent.

Anyone agree or disagree? And more importantly, sources?

You may, if you wish, address me as Master.

In the U.S., the title “Master” is generally only used for young boys (instead of “Mister”).

Mods: I believe our Ron deserves a subtitle of “Ph.D”, like Dr. Pepper’s.

Everyone: Please respectfully refer to him as Dr. Ron, much as we do for Dr. Hall.

How does the famous story in the gemorah of Hillel fit in here? When Hillel couldn’t afford the admission price to the shiur he usually attended, he went on the roof to listen in — without paying and without permission (that time).

If “intellectual property” has any basis in halacha, wouldn’t Hillel have been “stealing”?

They should have simply recognized a Federal employee assigned to work outside his home state by the Federal government, remains a resident of his original state for the purposes of election law. Much like the POTUS.

As far as Rahm not owning/renting an available residence during the relevant period, neither do homeless people and they too qualify to vote.

4 inches is definitely not too much, when 2 inches don’t cover the knees during certain activities, like she related to us.

    Wolf –

It IS different than going on vacation, since you do not lose your suffrage in that case. You simply must file the appropriate paperwork (i.e. absentee ballot request.) Laziness or ignorance isn’t a loss of suffrage.

AZ, so what it effectively boils down to in your estimation, is that every guy who married a girl 3 or more years younger than himself, is a perpertrator of this crisis and the cause of other girls being unable to ever marry.

It is the supermarket’s fault for a) being slow and (depending on the circumstances) b) causing the error that requires attention (i.e. a price discrepancy). It isn’t the customers fault the store takes so long.

One point I’m confident everyone agrees with, is that when a thuggish driver who is making a right turn while pedestrians are crossing and illegally pushes his way through before the pedestrians who are crossing, should be issued a bloody summons with a backbreaking fine and points for that life threatening incident.

Insist your mother tell you which rav gave that ‘psak’, and then call him. If you can get no name, assume it doesn’t exist. You are absolutely correct, 2 inches is not enough for all situations like getting into/out the car for example.

So an ideal situation might go something like this?:

customer puts cereal on checkout counter

    clerk scans it

    customer gives credit card

clerk packages product and gives it to customer with receipt

clerk says “Thank you for shopping with us.”

    customer says “You are welcome

    [very brief pause]

    customer says “Thank you.”

    clerk says “You are welcome.”
