Supply and demand. No one is forcing anyone to take the job.

And the camp is taking your child off your hands for the summer; isn’t that worth $150?

“I quickly found myself bored by the shiur and left after about fifteen to twenty minutes”.

Wolf, I’m not with you on this one. First, the shiur was not so off the topic; they both dealt with Ishus. It’s not like the shiur was supposed to deal with Pesach but was changed to the Halachic Status of the Mustache.

Also, a good magid shiur/darasha should keep your attention no matter what the topic is and a bad one will put you to sleep, no matter what the topic is.

You got to be an idiot to marry one of them, an ?????? ????? ?????? , especially when there are so many wonderful Jewish Bais Yaakov girls around. This was basically a one time dispensation for a righteous soldier to satisfy his yetzer hara in battle, but the Torah discouraged him to marry her.

Those of us who are learn daf yomi (Chulin)now know what Rav Moshe zt’l meant when he stated in his t’shuva that Chalov Stam in the United States is like Chalov Yisroel and those who are a Baal Nefesh should drink the Chalov Yisroel.

So what is a Baal Nefesh? A Baal Nefesh is someone who goes beyond the Ikor Hadin which is determined by the reasoning of “Rove”, and follows that which is determined by “Mee’ute” which is lifnei m’shuras hadin.

Let’s not forget another tragedy. Aron’s parents and family have just had their worst nightmare actualized. You don’t wake up one day and become a child killer. They must have been suffering with him for most of his 35 years.

They did everything right; Aron went to yeshiva, to camp, had a bar mitzvah celebration with his Rav in attendance, everyone danced at his chasuna, and nebech he is a very very sick person and probably always was. So why was he born with this deranged brain; ask the third partner. And beware, because there are more around.

Many don’t fold it at all…they sort of roll the talis and fold it after shabbos. According to the poskim who allow folding, it’s even on the crease because they hold that we are not experts today in knowing the art of folding that it should be so perfect.

Health – “She is guilty beyond any reasonable doubt.”

You keep on saying that but there is no evidence at all that anyone did anything; only that Casey is an idiot.

Regarding your previous post; as much as we want to believe them, police are known to lie on the stand.

While Bais Din does a drisha v’chakira of the eidim to assure valid testimony; this does not rule out false witnesses.

Pikuach Nefesh overrides issurim, such as if you are a physician or Hatzalah member. Otherwise, cell phones must be turned off before entering a shul or attending a shiur.

Generally, police testimony is given very little credence unless corroborated by other evidence. But what may occur at times in deliberations which result in contradictory verdicts for various charges, is that some jury members may be in favor of a guilty verdict on the most severe charges and others may want an acquittal on these charges, so an unofficial compromise is reached to convict on lesser charges.

However, all prejudices and preconceived notions are left outside the room. The panel will consider only the evidence before it and will make no assumptions. It is no wonder that many jailed individuals have been released many years after the crime when new technology becomes available to prove their innocence.

“A dead body with tape in her mouth”

Listen to the testimony of the medical examiner. There was no duct tape in her mouth. There was duct tape found with the skeleton remains. There was also a plastic bag found with the bones. There was no scientific proof presented at the trial which indicated that she was murdered, only circumstantial speculation, or guessing by the medical examiner. Laboratory testing of the remains produced no scientific evidence of murder. It’s no wonder that the jury acquitted Casey.

Using a cell phone during davening or when a Rav is giving a shiur (whether answering it or texting or looking at the text) is worse than those kids who text on Shabbos. The exception of course is Pikuach Nefesh.

“..but how did she know for sure the child was dead, unless she killed her herself?”

Casey did not testify, so we don’t know anything from her directly.

    “Who says?”

    Logic says.

    “What physical evidence?”

Exactly, a guilty person will leave some type of physical evidence, and there was none.

As I said above, the job of a defense attorney is to place doubt in the minds of the jury. Casey did not perjure herself on the stand; her attorney did a good job and she was found not guilty. Yes, Casey did not act like a Bas Yisroel, but she was not on trial for that.

Casey did not sit shiva, but that does not make her guilty. Some people cannot cope with personal tragedy and go into denial and act accordingly.

If it was a premeditated murder, Casey certainly would have acted the grieving mother part.

And it doesn’t appear that Casey was that sophisticated to dispose of all physical evidence.

Goq – one can use the same excuses for anything and everything; i.e. “You don’t understand, I need to work on Shabbos. Or, you don’t understand, I can’t give Tzedaka. Or, I can’t get married right now.”

But that’s not Yiddishkeit. Yiddishkeit is having trust in Hashem’s promises that when you do your part, Hashem will look after you no matter what.

I’m back and I hope the Mod will let this through.

Singles, don’t sell yourselves short! It’s never as bad as it appears. I know because I was there. No money, no parents at the wedding which was extremely basic and small; I felt so alone. Actually, you don’t really need a lot of money to marry and when I did, we did not have the organizations which exist today that help the chosen and Kallah to get started.

Feel down and depressed and alone? There is a girl out there who will be there for you and you for her. But don’t look for a stereotypical Hollywood type; there are a lot of frum women who would love to marry a kind and sensitive person such as you.

So it is my sincere belief that you have very little to lose and everything to gain by making the move and sharing the rest of your years, happy and with your life long companion.

Sounds like you want to take your marbles and go home.

“you should consider the possibility that you are wrong”

Wrong about what? Wrong about strongly advising single men to get married? I do it all the time and no one has taken offense. I do it because I know it’s the right thing for them to do. Wrong that I don’t consider them a group to be pampered and appeased? They deserve more credit than that.

Bad example. Chana did the right thing; she did marry and tried to have a family.

I have had singles coming to my table for decades, and are still coming. I know singles and they feel very comfortable being with me in my home. And as much as I love them and feel their pain, I still believe I am correct.

Then I couldn’t disagree with you more.

Life is hard for everyone but the Torah does not want you to use that as a reason to exclude yourself from the tzibor. There are always legitimate cases that are the exception, but they are not an example to follow.

Popa_bar_abba: “Isn’t it enough to be single in real life, why do you need to be single on YW also?”

Popa, I couldn’t agree with you more.

In general, there’s a single’s mentality that become established and makes it all the more comfortable for singles to remain single.

There is a reason why the Ashkenazi custom is that a never married male does not merit wearing a talis, nor can he be a shaliach tzibor on the yomim norayim, and other instances where only married men are permitted to be included in Jewish rites. The point is that a male who has not married is not a completed person; not in learning, not in his avodah and not in his sensitivity to the suffering of others. And there is a selfishness and a “me” orientation with single males.

So no one is doing singles a favor by providing them additional comfort zones, such as: their own minyanim in shuls, special discounts in shul dues, their own thread in the CR, etc. They need to feel that their behavior is not ok and they will only find acceptance when they marry and become mainstreamed into the general frum population.

There are numerous fine frum women who would love to marry a frum fellow. Find one and marry her.
