I would switch people that are arguing with each others posts that each one would say what the other one really said.

Set yourself a calendar alert to repeat every Friday to shut the light. A light is helpful for finding things in the fridge.

RebbeDovid1- Did you chose your rav because of your gratitude towards him, or his competence? If it was due to hakaras hatov, I’d tell you to reevaluate your decision on whether he should be paskening shailos for you. This girl feels that based on what she heard from him, she does not feel he is a competent rav. She does not plan on controlling you, which is why she did not tell you to take another rav. She however, for shailos which she will want to ask a rav, does not trust him to be the one to answer. You may not be sensitive enough to understand what was “off” with your rav’s remark, or she may be too sensitive. That’s irrelevant here.

Even with teachers supervising recces, there will be some bullying. It’s a sad part of life. Kids have a way of keeping teachers from seeing it- a quick shove and tell the teacher the other kid tripped, sly comments. There is no way to fully protect children ever.

poppa_bar_abba- it’s actually very poshut. When the popcorn was touching the oil, it was still a kernell. When it popped and flew out of the pot, it turned inside out so that the part that hit the pot never touched the oil at all!

“There again, progress for progress’s sake must be discouraged, for our tried and tested traditions often require no tinkering. A balance, then, between old and new, between permanence and change, between tradition and innovation because some changes will be for the better, while others will come, in the fullness of time, to be recognised as errors of judgement. Meanwhile, some old habits will be retained, and rightly so, whereas others, outmoded and outworn, must be abandoned.”- Professor Umbridge

You don’t need to question the girl’s motives. Excuses are okay because they make it easier to part without ill feelings between two sides.

If a girl goes out with a guy who is 6’2″ and says he’s too short, as a shadchan you should question her motives if you want to suggest a boy who’s 6’1″.

I think both should wear blindfolds on the actual dates until 4th date. It has the added benefit that you don’t need to spend money on seltzer at a nice lounge because can’t see it.

In other words a phone date. Or to be even more machmir, an email.

It’s just as normal as a guy refusing a girl after meeting her because she isn’t skinny enough for him.

Dolls are very important because they teach kids what a proper body type should look like. Very important for shidduchim.

I know with dolls some people say you should disfigure them and then it’s fine. Does getting rid of the stomach count?

If the US wants to help, they can provide a new prefab village that has thick concrete floors. With sensors under the concrete that will let the US know if the concrete gets broken.

I actually find invitations a useful way to keep track of weddings. While I don’t need an invitation to come to a wedding, it’s better than scribbling the date and address on a random scrap of paper. Who says I’d be able to read it later? If I would wait for an invitation to go to a wedding, I would have missed the wedding of my good friend. When I got her invitation, it was postmarked from two weeks before her wedding. I got it more than a month after the wedding. Funny part was that I never even realized that I didn’t get an invitation- I had thought that I just lost it.

RebYidd23- Not much of a joke. You can have the text in script, printed in plastic. You don’t need a paper to support it. That would be cool. Or you can have it printed on wood.

I would not believe this story for two reasons:

    1) Why would we not “need” a sefer after Mashiach comes?

    2) There is no nevuah these days, only ruach hakodesh. There is a difference. Also, R’ Chaim Kanievsky is not known for making promises.

I think pictures of accident scenes that don’t show victims is a good thing. It reminds people what can happen if they aren’t careful while driving. Note- some accidents are truly unavoidable, due to technical failure or medical problems. However, most accidents are preventable and we should do what we can to keep more from happening.

pba- It comes across a bit like you’re c”v comparing classical works to Torah. When the Torah talks about these topics, it’s always for a practical purpose, to teach us a lesson. It’s not just to entertain. It’s like comparing talking to your doctor vs. talking to your friends. Some books no matter how much you censor it are still problematic, like Anna Karenina.

zahavasdad- you say no one repeats the story of daas torah telling people to stay in Europe. How do you know they said that? Were you alive back then? (note, I’m not questioning whether or not some rabbanim said that, I’m just pointing out that it’s often repeated.)

Like rebyidd said, most products we use with food gets rinsed first. With plastic wrap, I don’t know about you, but I use it out of the box to wrap my chicken. If it were to have a non-kosher coating it would go onto my food. I’ve never checked if it has a hechsher, but I would assume it’s okay without one as there would be no benefit to it having a coating (it’s supposed to stick).

DaasYochid- there are some women who are uncomfortable with their husbands going to the rav for them as well. This has been an issue for a long time- ever since mikva women stopped dealing with these questions in this past century. This is really a revamped concept, not a new concept. I think if done properly this can be a good thing.
