RBS.Jew: You are completely missing and negating the fact that the Israeli government does not allow and makes it illegal for Chareidim to work until age 28. So for the first 10 or so years of their marriage they are not allowed to legally work, on the books. Why is this point so hard for you to accept and acknowledge?? THIS is the reason so many Chareidim work off the books or can’t work at all!!

Tell your friends to fix that law to allow Chareidim to work without Army service (and, no, we won’t accept mandatory Army) and you will see many many more Chareidim working on the books and paying taxes. As far as your demand that we get better paying jobs, that is a non-starter. We are entitled to earn a meager living and lifestyle if that is our choice. And our education choices, regarding limudei kodesh and/or secular studies (or lack thereof) is fully our choice and the government cannot and we will not allow them to interfere with our educational decisions for our children, as is our fundamental and natural right.

If all the muni-meter are broken on the block you are parking (or the only one is broken- if there is only one), under NYC laws and regulation you do not need to put a meter receipt and you can park for free. Broken includes even if the meter is simply not accepting credit cards. If you get a summons on your car, plead Not Guilty and write that the meter was broken.

Judges are, more often than not, arrogant self-serving over-powerful lowlifes who abuse their power that they shouldn’t have in the first place.

TLIK: Why your inconsistency? As you believe a menahel who does as such to a student is akin to murder, so here too. Jail is as close to murder, without getting there, as you’ll ever get.

No, it only applies to the girl. The boy should look into her brothers middos etc, as he can expect her children to be like her brothers. The reverse does not apply, as Chazal only applied it to the potential wife.

You should definitely make the sheva brochos. It will help you love your siblings and nephews/nieces more as well as help you overcome your negative feelings of revenge and being upset at your siblings for their perceived slight of not making a S”B for your child.

It is a side point, but in the U.S. you can indefinitely remain on food stamps, Section 8, HEAP, and a host of other programs.

Valid points? The Chareidim have a host of valid points that is never acknowledged by the other side.

Also, statistics show that the poverty level amongst the destitute is 100 percent, compared to %7 in the rest of the country. Of course the poor use a disproportionate amount of the tax money and contribute a disproportionately low amount.

We must tax the poor more.

RBS: Your argument, in a nutshell, is that people are required to make good money so that they should pay taxes. Your same argument equally goes against a guy who lives with his parents and doesn’t work. Or a guy who is poor and doesn’t make much money.

And you are simply wrong. As much as you don’t like it, the grown up living off his parents, the yeshiva guy and/or the poor guy have every right to be just like that. You have no right to tell the guy living with his parents to go get a job, or the yeshiva guy who is earning a living as a melamed or anyone else to change and to get a better paying job (or to even get *a* job). They have every right to remain as is.

Halacha does NOT demand that anyone forfeit a legal government benefit. If it is legal, it is permissible.

I would venture that the very religious communities in NYC generally have a very high proportion of families that have their own Succah. Generally the main reason one wouldn’t have one is due to space restrictions. But most members of the religious communities in NYC live in houses, not apartment buildings, and usually have ample space to build a Succah at their NYC homes.

Girls don’t have much choice but to accept overweight bochorim, as their are more girls than bochorim in the shidduch market and thus the girls must take what is available or risk being stuck unmarried indefinitely.

It seems to my limited knowledge of statistics that there was never a Hava Mina that there can be any other cause besides the mother.

You are incorrect about this, Health. Even they don’t claim with certainty that it could not have been passed to the child from another source. And this dismantles your entire argument.

pba: The fact of the matter is that your car is on their private property. So their towing your property off of their property is not a criminal violation regardless whether the civil laws should preclude their towing it off (since they invited you unto their property.)

It is solely a civil violation on their part if they wrongfully towed your vehicle off their property, in violation of Department of Consumer Affairs regulations when a vehicle can be towed off a property. The cops generally cannot get involved even if there is a violation of the consumer regulations.

The cops can’t do anything, especially if it is already towed. This is the case even if it was wrongfully towed. It is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. And the TV stations have many more interesting stories to fill their time than your tow story. They’ll laugh you off the phone.

Toys R Us cannot do anything about the towing. TRU is just one rental client of a half a dozen stores in Caesar’s Bay Bazaar. Caesar’s Bay Bazaar owns the parking lot, all the stores (which the various chains – Toys R Us, Best Buy, Kohls, etc. – rent out) and they are the ones who signed a contract with the towing company.

YW-18: They tow them to the tow truck companies lot, which could be miles away from the parking lot.

If they see your husband walk to the water and didn’t notice you went shopping at the same time, there is a risk they will tow. And once they hook up the car, they will not release it without you paying — no matter how good your excuse, even if you can prove you were shopping.

An Eved gets a mitzvah for eating in a Succa, even though he isn’t obligated to. (Just as a woman.) A goy gets no such mitzvah. So, clearly, an eved has business to be in a Succa while a goy does not.
