☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant
Inaccurate translation. I didn’t read the whole thing, but you misunderstood what R’ Moshe was doing with Rashi in Sotah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantCall them rabbi back (or maharat if they’re ladies).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWow, it’s your eight half year CRanniversary!
November 30, 2014 12:26 am at 12:26 am in reply to: Rav Millers Ten Commandments of Marriage #1044319☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI have met Popa on several occasions.
So tell us! Is he as sweet and soft spoken in real life as he seems in the CR?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI haven’t see the word love on their signs either.
I can’t fathom embracing someone who wants to annihilate us unless there’s hatred in their hearts.
November 28, 2014 5:12 pm at 5:12 pm in reply to: People coming in to Bais Medrash with no leining skills #1044285☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantHis point made sense, but the analogy only works partially. Computers are made to be used by people who don’t know the underlying code, but the Gemara wasn’t made to be learned by people who can’t read.
Sure, there’s what to gain from gemara without reading it, but it’s still a major handicap.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRandomex, are you indeed to be pitied, as per SaysMe?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantInternet addictions affect the family as well.
I assume Sam was being facetious when he said he’s addicted to the internet because he spends six hours a day listening to shiurim. Unless he thinks he should be using a regular sefer or learn with chavrusah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThere are some who feel that the book should not have been printed, not because the concepts aren’t true, but because some will not understand, and the benefit of printing it might be outweighed by the harm.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantPAA,
“?? ??? ???? ???? ?? ?????”
But she does.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant#, if you’re working on stopping listening to non-Jewish music, it’s a ta’avah, not a hahskafah.
I think, based on what you’ve posted, Chochom-ibber is right about what you’re looking for (and as an aside, maybe I missed something, but I don’t see rudeness in that post).
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWell, maybe Artscroll is not allowed to teach them either.
The reasoning of the Prisha would apply even if she asked, until she proves that she can learn “?? ?????”.
I think this is what your quote from R’ Elyashiv says as well.
To summarize, I think we all agree that we can’t impose it upon them, which means Gemara class in elementary or high school would be out.
I think Sam and Simcha would say optional classes, say in college or seminary, would be okay, but I think any kind of encouragement is assur; it has to purely come from her. I don’t know what Patur would say about this.
Further, the way I read the Prisha, even if she asks, that is not enough to prove that she won’t be ????? ????? ????? ????; she has to actually learn by herself first, At that point, if she demonstrates that she was???? ???? ?? ?????, it would seem reasonable that a man could teach her further.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, that’s not what the Prisha says:
?????, ??”?, ??”?, ?”? ??: ??? ?? ???? ?????, ??? ????? ????? ?????, ???? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ??”? ?? ???? ???? ?? ????? ????? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ??? ???? ???? ?????? ?????? ????? ????? ????? ???? ?? ??? ???? ???? ?? ????? ??”?

☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIn what way do you consider yourself not hashkafically yeshivish?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantR’ Eliezer doesn’t respond that you’re not chayav or that it’s assur; he responds that it will have a bad result.
And the Rambam and SA codify that by saying that Chazal commanded us not to teach her.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou have to teach your son Torah SB”P even if he doesn’t want to. You can’t do that with your daughter. If she wants to learn on her own, that’s perfectly fine.
You left out the case in the middle – she wants you to teach her.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantStill waiting for an invitation from popa for a genuine BBQ.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNot assur? ???? ??”? ??? ???? ??? ?? ??? ???? sounds pretty assur to me.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI’m not aware of anything he said comparing or contrasting the two.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo you know how many nisim hashem has performed for Israel?? I think Hashem is very “happy” with Israel
Maybe He is very angry that there is a government in Eretz Yisroel run by Jews in a very non Torahdik way, but despite that, He protects us because He loves us so much, and/or, as the Brisker Rov said, in the zechus of the Talmud Torah which takes place there.
It is not a stirah to say that the State of Israel is a chillul Hashem, and so is today’s NK.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFine, so we can look up the sources and try to figure out why, just let’s not, on our own, read things into the Shulchan Aruch which he never said.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantif we don’t approach them in a respectful way, how could they ever understand what they are doing is very very harmful?
Who says the goal is to help them understand that they are being harmful? Who says they don’t know? Maybe they do, but don’t care. Even if they don’t know, why assume there’s anything to do about it? They’re not going to listen to us either way.
I think our job is to distance ourselves from them and try to minimize the chillul Hashem as much as possible.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantNo, I’m specifically referring to the subjects which are assur.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThat it’s assur for a man to teach them.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI was actually the one interviewing popa.
First popa called me a Boron. So I asked her, if she thought so, why did she want to come to my Seminarium? She said because there were no good Seminariums in Americium. So I asked her why she didn’t apply to Bnos Sarah in Californium, and she said because she isn’t Lubavium.
I told her that I had to be Francium with her, that we couldn’t take a girl who was Sodium.
And I got the last laugh, because the application fee was a lot more than a Nickel.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI didn’t say it’s assur for girls to learn.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantChicken soup.
Put lots of water in the cholent, and have that “soup”. Some people like it that way anyhow.
As for fish, maybe a fish chowder?
Hatzlocha and refuah sheleimah.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe wedding day, the chasana, belongs to your parents.
That’s a nice attitude for the chosson and kallah to take, but a selfish and dangerous one for the parents to take.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe S”A just says it can’t be taught to them which I understand to mean that it is not allowed to be imposed on them
That is certainly not the classic way to understand it.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat’s the point of finding someone to marry if you’re not prepared to marry them?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s okay, I got the last laugh. Never thought I’d get married, did you?
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantOh, my, I figured out who it was!
http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/coffeeroom/topic/sample-seminary-essay#post-547153
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou’re welcome…but not too welcome.
November 25, 2014 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm in reply to: People coming in to Bais Medrash with no leining skills #1044277☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantZahavasdad, the Yiddish word “leining” simply means reading. We often use it to refer to reading from the Torah (which takes special skill, because there are no nekudos and trup – vowelization or cantillation symbols), but can refer to the ability to read gemara. The OP meant the latter, which also takes special skill, because there is no punctuation and there are no vowels, because Aramaic is usually less familiar, and one needs to be accustomed to the Talmud’s style.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantFunny, PAA! (but not too funny)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou’re still not making sense:)
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBump
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantRight. Let popa engage him, which doesn’t give legitimacy.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou wouldn’t let a three year old listen to a minute of music that you spend hours listening to?
HaLeiVi, excellent point.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantsaysme: Many of the posters know me in real life. Ask them.
And of course, popa neglects to say who they are or how to contact them.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAgain proving that only people with a P and and A in their name know math.
It’s got nothing to do with math, it has to do with me not knowing that the seminary situation is so redacted that most girls have to write silly essays so far in advance.
I didn’t know, because when you have enough $$, they don’t bother you to write essays, they’re only makpid that you know how to sign checks.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantDo I really need to explain how I know popa’s trolling?
1. I don’t think popa became such a feminist overnight that he made a pidyon habas, and expects her to be a gadol.
2. Popa doesn’t believe in seminaries.
3. It’s too early for essays for 2031, 2, or 3.
4. HE’S POPA, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant’31? You must be trolling us. You said she was going in ’33.
Also, you should really send your daughters to your own seminaries. It’s good for shidduchim, you know.

November 23, 2014 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm in reply to: People coming in to Bais Medrash with no leining skills #1044273☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI don’t think a single poster on this thread actually responded to what any other poster was saying. That includes me.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantSam, it was on other sites as well. you can find it by googling the guy’s name. It’s a story from about a year and a half ago.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI agree that the issue is not who wrote a song, it’s what emotions the song evokes. Hopefully, that’s more likely to be positive if written by a frum Jew, but it’s certainly not always the case.
You don’t know which experts I spoke to, so you can hardly do more than guess what they think of other forms of music.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant000646, I base it on conversations with experts in music, I base it on conversations with experts on the neshamah, I base it in how I know certain types of music, including rap, make me feel, and I base it on how I have seen people act when involved in such music.
☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThe famous tune for Shalom Aleichem was composed by Israel Goldfarb, a conservative rabbi, in the early 1900’s.
☕ DaasYochid ☕Participant000646, I don’t think musical taste is merely a matter of personal preference (although there’s certainly much of that involved).
Maybe you think rap is simply not to your taste, but I think it’s designed to appeal to the nefesh habehami.
