Trump isn’t a talmid chochom. So he isn’t perfect, he still has no good reason to be a good role model, he just needs good policy. And historically politicians were never good role models, they were always known as corrupt.

    Reb Eliezer.
I don’t think you quite understand what i am trying to say. The president is not a role model. The president leads the country. He has no reason to be a role model to your child, his job is to keep your child safe, healthy, and secure. Other than that he has no obligation to your, or anyone else’s children. He has a job mandated to him by the founding fathers through the constitution, not from the Torah. He isn’t Jewish, and has no reason to do what the Torah says.

ubiquitin: How are those facts not relevant? This is a discussion about banning guns, or controlling guns, including what guns can someone get, it is important to know what type of gun does the most damage to innocent Americans. As to whether what I said is true, I got this from a video I saw of a congressional hearing. I don’t think people lie in front of congress.

Here are some facts about gun violence I haven’t seen mentioned: 2/3 of gun deaths in the U.S. are suicides. The majority of rifle use outside of the military and hunting is self defense. The majority of violent crimes with guns are done with a semi-automatic handgun. Scary looking assault rifles are easier to use, while it can make mass shootings easier, it makes self defense easier too. Most untrained civilians would be more of a danger to other civilians and themselves if they are in a situation that would require them to use a handgun against a active shooter. They would be able to defend themselves much better with a assault rifle like the AR-15. These facts should be considered when discussing a gun ban.

    Oh knowledgeable Sir Sam Klien
1 Where did you get all that data about facebook causing thousands of intermarriages and divorces? I didn’t know facebook was the source of all evil.
2 Is davening from a phone really that bad? What about using a nooknuki?
    chymee
computers today are small and portable, on smartphones they usually have a watered down version of browsers that don’t have easy ways of clearing up your search historys, watch history and other such cookies.
With a computer you have the full access to the browser, and can modify you search history, upload mask fake URLs, and print out bad information. In my mind computers are just as bad or worse than smartphones.

If you want to just play a little bit, piano is a great choise, but it isn’t portable. Alternatively a wind instrument like a clarinet is very easy to learn and portable.

Please look into JFK, in my mind he was much more immoral than Clinton. The mods probaly won’t let me say what he did exactly, but trump is fine in comparison to either of them.
    Avi k,
America was founded with judo-christian values, it follows that a good amount of americans were catholic. JFK’s problem was that he was extremely immoral and not very faithful to his wife.

IT meaning Lakewood or Brooklyn? Lakewood has a whole bunch of yeshivos that can’t support themselves and has 5-10 buchrim. I don’t know much about Brooklyn, but I thought only yeshivos like chaim berlin were growing.

in reply to: Shidduchim between FFB and BT’s #1725300
    LOTR92

Neville, I don’t think you fully understand BTs. There are some BTs that you can’t even tell they are BT, like a rav I know, and there are some you can. Since BTs fully change their life around to become frum, that shows #1 extreme commitment #2 a fuller understanding of torah values, because they have lived the other “side” and found it lacking, then found a better way. FFBs never lived the other “side” so they don’t fully understand how good this way of life is. BTs aren’t perfect by a long shot, and BTs that have just become frum can have some of the issues you mentioned, but not for long. Maybe you should talk to someone in kiuv and findout more about BTs. (And even if they don’t look the same as you doesn’t mean they are bad people.)

This idea has 2 pros, 1 con that I can see. Pro #1 is people can find Shidduchim themselves, instead of only other people finding it for them, increasing potential Shidduchim, because there are more people looking out for potential matches. Pro #2 is boys don’t know how to act around girls, and girls don’t know how to act around boys. There is no way for to know how to act with the other because for the most part they never had any contact with the opposite gender. That’s not a bad thing, but in this case it is a big block to get around. Limited hanging out could help them get around that block. The con is boys will be boys, girls will be girls mixing them together can have obvious results, but with proper planning I think it could work.

Ask him if after he dies, can we use his body for dog food. Most sane people say no. Then, ‘Why not? Why do you care what happens to your body after death?’ It’s not a logical answer but a emotional one.

“Today, with the easy availability of shmutz, dorm counselors are a must.”
Not true. A bochur can get all that “shmutz” whether there is a dorm counselor or not. Sometimes a dorm counselor is a responsible person that does a good job, but more often than not the dorm counselor is immature and babyish, looking for kicks by thinking they can ‘control’ the younger guys. They are worthless in that regard. When I was in mesivta all the dorm counselor did was soak people that were wearing shorts in the hallway. He did nothing to stop bochrim from getting ‘shmutz’.

    The little I know
When you were a teen, did you do everything exactly the way you were supposed to? I didn’t. Most people didn’t.
Teens want to get drunk. Teens want to do a lot more than get drunk but most frum teens don’t.
    Is it right? No.
    Is it the reality? Yes.
    Is it soooo terrible? No.

    the little I know,
I’m saying people are people, and people get drunk sometimes. purim happens to be the once a year when it is somewhat acceptable, but only it is done safely and responsibly. I agree that isn’t he point of purim, but the reality is, to a lot of teens, that is what they look forward to. Purim isn’t a time where “regulations are lifted”, but a time when someone can get drunk once a year, responsibly, and not have a problem with it. So yes, let teens be teens, once a year of getting drunk isn’t so bad, and purim is a safe time to do so because there are people looking out for drunk people, like all the sober drivers out, who drive very carefully so hey don’t hurt anyone.
