    South African is the cutest.

London sounds most professional but I cant understand Manchester- they sound like it hurts to talk. Like they are tripping over their own teeth.

in reply to: Fathers and brothers dancing with the Kallah #709172

I would have loved to dance with my father and brothers at my wedding, but while I dont feel its exactly public lewdness and immorality I dont think its appropriate.

It becomes a whole balagan when men start coming in to the womens section…and when the kallah goes into the mens section (which is why I didnt do either) The mechitzahs end up being pushed over and the side of the dancing without the action will end up crowding into the other section.

I just didnt want to have the headache of men and women mingling by my chasunah…and so even though I really wanted to go into the mens section or have the men in my family come in…I let it go.

psach libi…there isnt anything wrong with going out with a 20 year old- but most of them will not be mature enough to get married.

Guys dont grow up until they have to. So most bochurim will act like kids until they know they have to grow up and date. Just that thought will already make them more mature : )

in reply to: 20 yr old boy vs 23 what's the difference? #712800

You can say the same thing about girls- whats the difference between an 18 yr old girl and a 21 year old girl? Trust me most 21 yr olds are more mature…I dont think it has to do with what you do. People mature gradually and at some point they can see that they are way more mature than they were 3 years ago.

Whats the purpose of this anyways? Are you saying you want to date 20 year old boys?

And I just remembered the time that 2 birds flew through my window and were walking around on my kitchen table…I did almost jump out of my skin…but I dont know if thats a fear- its more like a scare

    mischeifmaker-

The only segulos worth doing is davening and going for brachos from gedolim.

And trust me, Im in a situation right now that I would love to do segulos and get what I need already…but I feel that it will take away from my emunah and bitachon and I dont think it will get me there any quicker than Hashem wants.

in reply to: Shidduchim a LESSON FOR LIFE! #706538

    APushetaYid-

That reminds me of a speech that Rabbi Orlofsky gives-

He asks why doesnt your bashert just knock on your door and say “Hi I’m your bashert- where can I put my bags?”

Because Hashem does a favor for us by making us work hard for it so that we’ll appreciate it much more

He says it better…but that was the gist of it

(the whole speech is on Torahanytime.com)

in reply to: using your own money #707056

Of course its fair! Why should your parents have to pay for all your clothes now that you are working?? especially now that you’ll want tons of clothes – girls working age tend to love shopping and buying new clothes all day.

Why do you expect your parents to foot the bill?

Besides its great to learn how to budget before you get married.

    Sacrilege-

I also went to seminary with no friends and it was the best choice I made in my life (besides choosing to marry my husband 😉 )

I was able to be my own person and do things I normally wouldnt have done had my close friends been there watching me.

And yes I’m still very good friends with my friends from high school that I didnt go to seminary with

in reply to: Bnos Sara vs. Bnos Chava #942450

    BYMeidel-

Bnos Chava has taken much more trendy girls in the past year or two because mesilos closed. Its a very with it crowd although they may be solid girls. Check into the last years girls because they changed very recently.

Bnos Sarah girls have much less emphasis on fashion and they are generally a more yeshivish crowd. Some come from yeshivish homes and some became yeshivish on their own. You will probably find diversity in every seminary

    in reply to: bashert #704872

Because we had the same hashkafos and goals and both liked each other. No one came down from heaven and told me its bashert. I assumed it was because everything matched up

    Oomis-

I dont think that any of us down here on earth can decide who is more of an eved Hashem.

in reply to: learning boy?.. #703480

    Rabbi of Berlin-

It isnt staggering. And no one is ignoring open gemorahs. These are famous gemorahs that everyone has heard before.

And you are going to argue with this, but we arent relying on others for parnassah. We are relying on Hashem. And there is nothing wrong with that. The gemorah says (you failed to quote this one) that Shevet Levi did not have to work, and Hashem provided for them. And anyone who wants to be a part of that can join.

Now you will say “but shevet levi should be a small percentage, not the thousands of people who are learning nowadays.” and I will tell you that due to assimilation and people off the derech, we ARE an extremely small percentage of learners.

And where are you getting “tens of thousands of people that are burdening the tzibbur” from? That is a gross exagerration. Majority of the people learning will only learn for a couple of years after the chasunah and go to work way before they have kids that they need to pay tuition for. Out of the rest of them (the long term learners) there is a large group that support themselves by the wife working (sometimes more than one job) and the husband bringing home kollel paychecks or tutoring. So we arent left with that many people who are “burdening the tzibbur”.

Besides, I’m really not here to argue about if one should or shouldnt learn. Everyone can choose what they want to do. I just had a simple request for BP Totty and he complied like a mentsch.

in reply to: learning boy?.. #703477

    BP Totty-

I appreciate that you read through my post and didnt get defensive. (as some other posters here did) Thank you for taking my point to heart.

Of course I respect the working part of the Torah community. My own father, who I think is one of the greatest people out there is a working professional, who also happens to be a talmid chacham.

We are all here on Earth to accomplish the same thing. We all believe in the same Torah and try our hardest to live by it. Its ok for each person to have a different derech towards their goal.

in reply to: learning boy?.. #703471

    RSRH-

Of course I can respect you for all that. Most of my family members are doing the same as you are (besides for the part about choosing not to support it) and serving Hashem through the way they chose.

I dont think that there is anything wrong with the life you chose. Not everyone was meant to learn all day and thats fine. All I ask of you is not to bash those of us that did choose to learn all day. We are learning the Torah that you believe in. So just please dont put it down.

As far as beng equal, I dont think that that has anything to do with this. I have no idea what schar is waiting for either of us. Maybe more was excpected of me and I wont get so much schar. And maybe you are doing exactly what is expected of you and will go straight to gan eden. I dont know who Hashem decides is equal.

All I know is that I dont consider myself equal to a lot of people out there. So why do you feel like we need to be equal? Would you say you should be equal to R’ Chaim Kanievsky as long as you are both adhering to Hashems law in all that you do?

    Mi Keamcha Yisroel!

Its unreal how when it comes to a mitzvah, everyone unites no matter how different we are. (and boy are we different as is clear from almost every other thread in the CR)

in reply to: learning boy?.. #703467

    BP Totty-

I understand from your various posts that you are not in favor of long term learning. That is perfectly fine. Your children dont have to learn full time for as long as they can or want.

But can I respectfully ask that you not put down those of us who do want this zechus and this lifestyle?

You sound like a frum ehrlicher yid who follows the laws of the Torah. Why would you want to be constantly talking against those who dedicate their lives to learning that which you firmly beleive in? It just doesnt sound right for a Ben Torah like yourself to keep speaking (or in this case writing) against those who love Torah so much that they want it day and night.

I know you are upset at those in society who take advantage and try to get money (whether thru tuition or whatever else) from those who dont want to give. And I completely understand you. (which is why I am asking so respectfully)

But what about those of us who dont do that? Those of us who get supported thru means that dont bother anyone else?

    Can you respect us?

    Basmelech- I agree

I once had no gas for two weeks so I made a roasted tomato soup in the oven. The soup was good but it definitely didnt feel right

in reply to: Chicken Soup, Friday Night? #702906

Maybe it came from poor people who didnt have enough chicken for the whole family and this way everyone gets to taste the chicken flavor. Its a way of stretching the chicken so more people can partake of it
