CHACHAM…. I am not sure if this is right, but

A knows who did it, but not killer

B full truth- not there at all, so not murderer

    C 1/2 truth, not killer but A was there…

D Liar, killer and A is lying (if A is lying means a half truth, since a half truth is equal to a lie…)

Am I close? this is a great riddle! 🙂

Can I ask why people are making such a big deal about this? Someone is playing a practical joke… i heard to be careful on January 11 because that is 9/11 backwards…how about locking ourselves in a closet and dont leave so that I guess this is one benefit to living out of the state of NY… catch your breath, there is life beyond the hudson river…

in reply to: School Help! Please! #630809

I was talking to someone once and we both reference the same posting in the CR… kind of weird to think that the person next to me may be the person I have been yelling at for the past week or two….or my father…

But he didnt say that cell phones in general are assur… Fine- leave them in your coats by the coat closet or whatever they have there…. just the same idea- off or on silent. But check them every few hours to prevent unnecessary worrying by the mothers…

These are all amazing! Tizku Lemitzvos! What a way to elevate the mundane! Thank you each and every one of the dvar torah posters!

in reply to: Shmuz In Mir Yerushalayim About Gaza War #1024463

Cell phones should be off during shiurim, so as not to disturb others. If it must be within reach, as I know many parents who want to be able to reach their children at all times, turn it to silent and only check it once an hour ect. That way learners will not be disturbed and through this extra learning, we’ll have more zechusim to be safe from harm….

in reply to: Why Is The World So Against Israel?? #861581

Most of the world has not even seen a Jew, but are quick to condemn Israel (and Jews at the same time). We need to realize that in the Goyim’s minds, Israel=Jews. Israel is the most condemned country by the UN. No, not Iran, N. Korea, Cuba, or Venuzuela not even America- ISRAEL! We will be blamed for everything wrong in the world, from terrorism to the economic crises. If they could, they would find a way to blame every hurricane, earthquake and tornado on us as well… they just arent creative enough yet 😉

We are the most hated nation on the planet, and there is nothing we can do about it. No matter what, we will be hated. Our existence proves they are just fools believing in lies. We show that they follow illogical and false paths.

What about children being children? by not being carefree and on a n important part of life- being carefree. by forcing them to grow up early- it can be damaging to their growth… Responsibility is good, but forcing them to be adults at 9,10 or 11 years old is crazy and abusive. There is a balance that must be kept and if one chooses to have many kids, they should be able to take care of them or afford babysitters. Why should the children be mothers to their siblings? Why should Bais Yaakov girls be free labor (as chessed hours) to members of the community who cannot take care of their children? I understand when their is a new birth or a crises in the family to use BY students for chessed. These chessed hours can be used to help people who did not choose to be in their situation- illness, death, disabilities, divorces or the many crises that unfortunately plague our communities.

in reply to: Help with Powerpoint presentation #631032

I have been using powerpoint for a while now, but I find open office to be great and whats even better- its free! u download it for no charge, and it has excell, word, powerpoint… all under different names (presentation instead of powerpoint, writer instead of word) and you can save it as a .doc so others with the expensive microsoft version can read it as well! Also, no need to learn how to use it as the symbols at the top are almost the same.

in reply to: Sick of parking! #633444

question- why is waiting for a parking spot better then circling? By stopping you cause traffic to back up, people cant get around you, and a lot more honking! It is the same with double-parking. Circle or take public transportation. I know some cities dont have a decent bus/train/subway system (or one at all) but if your area has one- PLEASE TAKE IT! It is really annoying to see people drive their car to go down the block… and then end up parking three blocks away.

in reply to: BREAKING: Lipa to do another concert – “The Event”? #630211

Can someone, without the yelling, screaming and drama, explain why there has to be a hechsher? I understand we are the people of the book. I understand that some people may not like his style, music, lyrics ect (I am not taking a stand- I personally have not listened to too much of his music to make a statement). Each person has the choice to go or not to go. By not going, that makes a statement as well. Where and how you spend your money is a statement of political or religious beliefs, priorities, and sources of enjoyment ect.By making everything ossur, it forces people who would go to seek alternate sources for entertainment, many less appropriate, like going to the movies ect. Why does a haskoma have to be given? Is one given for every concert? Every social gathering?

Could we please do some leilei nishmas yoel ben sheva . He was R’ Shwartz- the father who was niftar after collapsing at his daughter’s wedding in Los Angeles Sunday Night. The family started sitting shiva today during sheva brachos so I think it is appropriate for this week.

in reply to: Yeshiva Bachurim Collecting For Their Yeshiva #629722

I think those colorful fliers are a big waste of money. they get thrown out anyways! It is one thing to have colorful signs hanging up, but to me, if fliers are colorful it says that they have enough money to spend on this they dont need much of my money. I know thats mean to say, but what is the point? Like the electric company sending 5 of the same glossy full colored papers in my bill to tell me not to waste paper and money and switch to online billing. Its a waste of money. black and white says the same thing.

Its all biyadei shamayim (ok, i just learned how to do that, so i am trying it all out…)

It is probably all mass hysteria and that is what terrorists aim to do: scare us all so that we cannot live our normal lives. Just be on the lookout for anything suspicious, and daven to Hashem. I would be extra cautious around arabs while the war is going on because they are pretty upset at Israel and Jews right now (more then their normal fanatical hatred…) so dont do anything to get someone angry… but act out your normal life!

It is beautiful to see families with large number of kids- I dont care what you say about birth control. After the chorbon in Europe, we need to reproduce the gedolim that we lost….

But, if a family is having hard financial trouble… talk to a Rav. STOP PASKENING IN THE CR!!! since i dont know who you are anyways, how could I know where you are in the spectrum and if I can trust your opinion?!?! it is one thing to debate hashkafos, but halacha is where it must stop already! Lets stick to how it used to be… hashkafa, random questions, riddles/jokes and news/current events.

just as a side note to everyone who wrote to stop Abu Graib tortures…unless you are willing to put your own child there in the plane/plaza/hotel that the terrorist is planning on blowing up (and you caught one so could find out enough details to stop it if you tortured them) allow torture!the terrorists gave up their rights as humans when they chose to destroy others lives (with no cause besides fanaticism, greed…). those in the plane/hotel ect did not chose to be killed- but the terrorist did chose to kill!

    in reply to: Meshulachim #630857

Meshulachim need to be careful how they approach people…a crazy story…came home from megila one purim night and there were a group of bums and hooligans on the front lawn. They looked like they were trying to canvass the place to rob or otherwise up to no good. This family drove up to their home (this one) and the father got out to scare them all away. Fearful for his wife and kid’s lives, he bravely shut the car door and went to the house. He found out that they were meshluchim!!! These boys need to realize that doing that late at night, with realistic costumes especially, is inappropriate and wrong.

wow- pretty smart and witty for 13… and people say that the school systems dont work…

zoos- in florida there is something called butterfly world. I do not know where it is, but it is amazing- you can walk in a building where the butterflies can roam freely and even land on you…

in reply to: BREAKING: Lipa to do another concert – “The Event”? #630209

Isnt that some sort of advertisement just by putting it up there? Having an ad before the war, and taking it down during the war shows the same thing, doesnt it? and I think people associated with the concert would know enough to have someone post here “I think Lipa took down the signs out of courtesy for the war…” I am not saying that the there should be ads now. I commend them on the fact that there arent many ads and that the ads stating that there are no ads are not bright and attractive. This is appropriate for this time; we should be delving into our learning, davening with more kevanah, and practicing ahavas chinam.

in reply to: Israels Disproportionate Response #629825

was this article published anywhere? It is so well written i think it should be spread to more news sources, including the UNintelligent and the NY times… maybe it will stop them from spreading political lies for one day…Reuters messed up again stating that Israeli soldiers were captured and killed when none were. Like the second lebanon war with that photoshopped picture. what a great track record for these people…

in reply to: School Help! Please! #630778

brooklyn 19 and all those in school- be very careful when stating the “not so popular side of the argument”- some teachers only want a spit-back of their political views. If you dare to think anything else, or C”V write it- they fail you. I have known people who’s grades were lowered because they did not follow the teacher’s mantra that “white men are to blame for all problems, Bush=devil, and that the Jews caused 9/11 or other horrific events”….

in reply to: Girls & Cellphones Yes/No? #1040551

Just to show how sad it is getting with cellphones… at a shiur I was at, someone in front of me was texting to a friend. If it was an emergancy, then do it low-near-your-lap. But this person was texting high so that the Rav was able to see what was happening! Oh, and I was able to see what she texted… nothing in the emergancy-type of nature.

Another time I was listening to two students talking…”If i was unable to text, i would have no idea what to do during class!”

If you allow your children to text, then realize that it will be done during class and at other inappropriate times. A cell phone may be necessary if they have to walk a long way home from school or drive home! It is dangerous to not let them have it- just take off texting. I know ATAT allows you to ask to take all internet and texting functions off cells, so that way you get cheap plans and free mobile to mobile, but without these issues. (and maybe other companies, I just know for sure ATAT- you need to ask special for it and explain you are doing it to stop high text bills…)

    couple of questions here:

where did the minhag of gelt come from?

where do you copy and paste these neat pics from? or do you spend hours doing them?

what is this about CVS coupons? Please explain where you get them from and how you do it? this would really help! what is WAGs/ECBs?

    thanks!;)

in reply to: School Help! Please! #630774

Depending on who is your teacher, he or she might have a point of view that he wants you to write about. IE: if your teacher is liberal, black, democrat, a fan of the ACLU/NAACP, or agrees with Al Sharpton- then write that there is still racism today. but, if your teacher allows freedom of the press, , a republican/conservative, or allows students to express their political views freely and without being criticized then right what you want. But, as was said before- Obama will be the 44th president and I think there is no inequality in public universities/jobs (except to whites perhaps…) Good luck on your report!

in reply to: HUMOR: Funny Mother-In-Law vs. Shadchan #645963

Unfortunatly, it is sometimes the MILs who cause shalom bayis problems between the couple. MILs should know that their daughter has married and is out of the house- let her start her own house without your every word being law! She is grown up and should be allowed to run her house HER WAY. I know this happened to someone I know. Their MIL cause such issues between the boy’s family from the engagement and on. She wouldnt let the son run the house according to his family’s minhagim (which is the way it should be except the candles). There is such shalom bayis problems between the couple…

That is so neat ICOT… never thought about that.. would the season make any difference? (except not during the late summers when there are hurricanes… kind of hard to do…) this riddle page is neat for finding odd facts!

in reply to: Shidduch Priorities #637671

Come on!! Get your priorities straight! I understand that both sides need to be attractive to each other, but sometimes let the inner beauty show through… I disagree with the entire “give the shadchan a shidduch picture…” people can photoshop those things- remember. and when the couple ages and has kids, IY”H, they will 100% not look the same as their wedding. Only inner beauty lasts.

    in reply to: Smoking #633044

ok, this is very important about smoking….

    1) Smoking once is enough to be addicted. Nicotine is so addicting that it can catch people the first or second time they try to smoke.

    2) It takes at least ONE MONTH to get rid of all damage that ONE cigarette does to your body. Now, having 3-4 (meaning of a few) takes at least 3-4 (or maybe more) MONTHS to get rid of all traces of it. Doing this every year can cause real damage to your body.

    3) I know someone who stopped smoking for 22+ years after being a chain smoker for many decades. She still was niftar from lung cancer due to her smoking.

    4) show your kids the pictures of lungs after smoking and they may stop.

    5) what about the halacha to protect your body?? Ushmartem meod es nafshoteichem… if you wont do it for your physical well being, do it for the Olam Haboa.

in reply to: Shidduch Priorities #637661

Itzik…. unfortunatly, many people find these things real and “musts”.

I have heard that people will not use colored tablecloths or plastic on them and they wont have their daughters/sons marry into families that do.

What is the problem with today’s world? Many people really do look for these things, but when not in the market or have a child in the market they criticize those who do want these things. People are hipocritical. When looking for a chosun/kallah- remember a basic rule that I think should be asked before rejecting outright (before the first date)-Is there anything major that should prevent the couple from living a Torah lifestyle and having a happy marriage? cooking styles or size of hat brim really do not make a difference in the end, IY”H 30 years down the line. (ie- are they from the same basic spot on the hashkafa spectrum and i do not mean exact same but if they are around the same area- that is whats important.)

One question tho… please explain , “definitely does not matter if he is involved in stuff that could land him a 10 year shteler as the rosh koilel at Otisville.” is that a prison?

in reply to: Shidduch Priorities #637655

But yichus has no effect on the girl! As I said before- some girls act like their father’s are roshei yeshivos when they are baalabatish and some do not. I mean that those without the yichus were the ones getting the midos awards ect and the ones with the yichus were the trouble-makers in the class. Same with the boys! Some budding talmedai chachamim are from non-yichus families while those with yichus sometimes are the lazy/not so smart ect. Look at the individual child!

in reply to: Shidduch Priorities #637650

I was taught that when chazal said to look for a “bas talmed chocham” for a wife, it meant someone who emulates one and not necessarily is one. For example, there are plenty of fine girls out there whose parents are not necessarily talmedei chachamim or from yichus, but by looking at them you would think that their father is the Rosh Hayeshiva. On the other hand, many of those who are from yichus/father in kollel are not always the ones with the best middos/desire to have a torah home/ personality/ brains…

look at the individual girl. If she is ok, then look at wealth, yichus, family ect. Many first disregard perfectly good girls or girls who would make wonderful wives and mothers but are tossed aside because of who their father is or how much money he makes. What makes a girl suitable is who she is and what she makes out of herself from the platter that she was alloted in life. Some people may not have had the easiest childhood or experiences but that could of made them who they are! Many girls are different than their siblings/parents so just because their brother/father/uncle is wxy or z doesnt make them any less of a “catch”. It does not matter as long as who is in the girls yichus as long as the girl is ok.
