ubi, I think you are off by a day the Equinox Tekufas Tishri adjusted should be October 6 not 7.

    September 23 + 13 = October 6 (not 7)
    October 6 + 60 = Dec 5

That is what my local shul luach showed but both of you are correct that it should be Dec 5.

Equinox Tekufas Tishri = Sept 23
    + 60 = Nov 22
+ 13 days difference between Gregorian and Julian Calendar.

I emailed my shul luach editor.

If you look at the gemora in Perek Chelek, where each of the talmidim thought that their rebbi was Meshiach. According to the Rav Abarbanel, Meshiach is an acronym for Menachem, Shiloh, Yinon and Chanina. There rebbies were all alive at that time.

Chanukah is related to Sukkos. According to the Beis Shamai we diminish the candles by days as the oxen was diminished day by day. The Beis Hille holds that as days went by, our spirutuality increased whereas the Beis Shamai wants to dimihish our materialism as the oxen representing the umas haolam are diminished. Sukkas where we celebrate a good harvest is our holiday instead of Thanksgiving Day.

How come the Beis Hilell holds that divorce can be done even if she burns his food? The answer is, if he wants to divorce for that, then there is no help for that marriage. The mizbeach cries for divorcing the first wife because the mizbeach brihgs peace. At the wedding they are mochel the sins because sholam bayis is already such a geat nisoyan and they doh’t need to be also burdened with all their sins.

The Chasam Sofer questiions, why don’t females light when the neis also involved them? He says that originally they lit outside and it was improper for them to light among the men, so even now that we light inside the original custom remained . The Chasan Sofer explains the custom for the women not working as long the candles are burning. The yevonim wanted to eliminate Rosh Chodesh in order not to keep yomim tovim where the women light the candles. Min haTorah there are eighr days, so the women don’t work and the men light for the neis of the oil.

Avi K, אם תהיה בעינך כמאלך ה’ צב-אות תורה מבקשה מפיו, let’s give credit where credit is due to the Hafloh, rebbi of the Chasam Sofer, so the Chasam Sofer echoes hiim by explaining that the moon was willing to diminish itself to allow the stars shine.

Yabia Omer, there is an argument between the Rabbenu Taam and the Rambam if the saying of an unnecessary brocho is assur biblically because of Lo Siso which is the view of the Rambam see SA O’CH 215,4 or rabbinically as the Rabbenu Taam see the Tosafos Rosh Hashana 33,1. If women make a brocho on a time dependent mitzva is related to this argument. Halel on Rosh Chodesh is only a custom. so according to the Mechaber above a brocho should not be made. In SA O’CH 422,2 according to one view holds that in tzibur you do make a brocho. Could be that this view holds that Halel betzibur is not only a minhag but parsimei nisei.

CS, The Democrats follow the Jews whereas the Republicans follow the goyim. Only the goyim are commanded on the iborim. By the Jews punisment by the beis din is monetary. The Meharsha says that is why Pharaoh used the Jewish midwives as they are not commanded killing a fetus in the mothers womb.

Milhouse, Your justification does not hold water. Even if it creates monetary harm, abortion is done only when the fetus is a rodef, see the SMA mentioned above. The judgement is min hashomayim because his intentions matter. For goyim, they consider it murder but not us, so they get killed.

I am not Jackk, but please explain to me why are socialists evil who help the needy. The rich should pay more because they use the benefits of the country more because they have more to lose. They are not all criminals who are separated from their families. If they are illegal, then the whole family is illegal. I don’t call you names and appreciate if you did the same. The doctors get punished performing abortions without regard of reason and the circumstances are not so extremely rare.

    Reb Eliezer

Yehudayona, I think you are right see the sma CHM 425,2 s’k 8 proving that as long it is fetus in the stomach it is not considered murder because if the womwn is hurt losing her child ch’v, there are monetary damages, so we are obligated to save the mother by whatever means possible.

Milhouse, I don’t appreciate calling me an evil person. I am not a full socialist equavalent to a communist, but I believe that capitalism has gone to the extremes caring only for making money and not for the well being of the workers. Currently they say, if you don’t like our policies, leave. As an old man I personally experienced this. I worked in bank and was let go before earning a pension.

I cannot support someone and the party following him, who ostracizes immigrants by separating families, and supports the rich by only givihg them a tax cut believing that he knows everything better than anyone else.

Some are fanatic and don’t allow abortions in any case even when the mother is in danger when a child is a rodaf as long it is not viable. See the last mishna in the 7th perek in Oholas and the Rambam Hilchas Rotzeiach 1,9.

    Reb Eliezer

No one supports abortion. only they are not against. it. It is up to the mother to decide if it is necessary. The rich are always able to get abortions by traveling to a place were it is allowed, but the poor will endanger themselves
by doing it a precarious environment.

To demonstrate the above. the Chasan Sofer passed away at 48 years old. He was the grandfather of Rav Shmuel Ehrenfeld ztz’l who passed away at 89. So when they will be resurrected, they will say on the 48 year old that he is the grandfather of the 89 year old which will make us laugh.

The above question should be, how did Avraham Avinu keep shabbos? בן נח ששבת חייב מיתה. The answer above is not so obvious. For a Jew, motzoei shabbos is the next day, but for a non-jew it is shabbos since the night follows the day.

Chiyuv on the tzibur is to make sure ten people listen to the leining but I don’t have to worry that people will learn from me as long they are listening now. By tefila, I have an individual chiyuv, so if ten people llisten, I could learn, if not that others will follow my lead. By leining, I don’t have a responsibility to worry about the future.

Joseph, There is a difference between leining and tefila. Tefila is a chiyuv on each individual whereas leining is a chiyuv on the tzibur (except for megilla). Therefore, if ten people listen to leining , you can learn quietly, but not at tefila.
