How would you feel if a guy wore a toupee to mask his baldness?

RABBAIM, I actually meant to say the opposite, I guess I was concise but not clear. There are lots of good Yeshiva boys. My nighbor is a Rebbi/Menahel. He asked if we could host a few Bochurim over Shabbos. We had to be out of town that Shabbos. My wife told his wife to keep that in mind. When we came back Motzi Shabbos, the house was as we left it plus a box of chocolates (either from them or the Rebbi’s family) with a thank you note. The point is there are good and bad. Alcohol has crept into Yeshivas. It needs to be controlled.

RABBAIM: it is certainly not going to increase Kavod HaTorah if some Baal habatim, their wives and kal vachomer their daughters witness the scene as they leave for shule.

Maybe then our daughters will go for more mentchlich person, even if he is not cut out for learning, than a learning guy who drinks too much too often.

“If most people aren’t paying attention anyways, so why do you care if their way of not paying attention is by learning.”

So let’s get rid of C”H and while we’re at it, most people don’t like Tachnun either.

[For my true opinion, see my previous post.]

Rav Moshe did not learn during Chazaras Hashatz or Kabalas Shabbos. The Satmar Rav would walk up and down his Bais Medrash closing seforim during C.H. Why does a person think he is holier because he has a sefer open? I would bet that the Ramban or the Ari-Zal etc. would not want someone learning their seforim during those time.

I see everyone here assumes male-female contact. There is another negia issue. Why don’t Kohanim go to cemeteries/levayos/etc.? To avoid becoming Tomai. So if the rest of us are Tomai Mes, then how can any of us shake the hand of a Kohain?

Nope. Device must be in hand to text. That may change in the near future when one should be able to dictate to the phone with nearly 100% accuracy.

I am not one and I am personally against it, but I don’t say anything because it has become somewhat of a Minhag. Today, I got my enjoyment as the Baal Koreh was a Yemenite (in a Yeshivish/Chasidish shul) so no one knew how to “kaeylah”.

If they really follow what this “scholar” says in the Haaretz rag, there would have to be a Gerrer Kesuba that leaves out the “Onah” section from Sher Ksus V’Onah. I’ve been to Gerrer weddings and they didn’t have a special Kesuba.

It’s brought down that one who eats from what a mouse (or weasel?) left over (Shirayim of the mouse) causes him to forget his learning. So the concept is deduced from there that one who eats what a Tzadik leaves over should have a positive effect on his learning, yiras shomayim, etc.

Kollel is for people who can do it, which is much less than the amount of people enlisted in Kollel. I learned in Kollel for a year. Learning before working will prepare you for “derech eretz.” Some people probably need more prep. so they should stay longer — they are the ones who need to train in the other kind of derech eretz — bain adam lachavairo.

Recently, my sons’ school had “meet the teacher” night, so in my second grader’s class, I ended up sitting in the back of the class. For some reason, I had the urge to launch spitballs, when she started writing on the board. I never did / thought of doing this sort of thing when I was in school. Makes me wonder….

First of all, any shul I ever davened in, has both Nusach Sfard and Nusach Ashkenaz. Some even had different flavors of Sfardi. Second, as a part of the tzibur, the individual should follow the nusach of the shul. I bring my own during the week and for the parts said out loud I follow the tzibur.

Simcha that comes through alcohol use is ‘fake.’ Alcohol in moderation can be used to enhance a Simcha. It should not be the subject of the Simcha. The only alcohol I had was what I made Kiddush on + 1/2 shot of scotch, which was BTW after gevaldige hakafos. My Simcha came from singing and dancing.

Here’s a good case: I travel far for my job. I wake up early and daven close to my office (near Yehupitzville, Long Island). Sometimes there may be traffic along the way, which means I’ll have to start before entering shul.

Another possibility: He davens nusach Sefard and is going to an Ashkenaz minyan, so he’s saying the additional tefillos that Ashkenaz does not say, whether in korbanos or the beginning of P’sukei D’zimra.
