Unless you keep Chalov Yisroel, BR is perfectly fine
zahavasdadParticipantNot all flavors are kosher , Rocky Road and one or 2 others arent kosher
Its cold and they wash the scouper , so it isnt a problem
zahavasdadParticipantLU
There isnt exactly one custom for Ashkenzaic Jewery. It is not monolithic. German Jews have different customs from Litvish , who have differnt from Chassidic who have different from Oberlander
zahavasdadParticipantWhere did you see about it, I saw nothing
zahavasdadParticipantTrolling is an accpeted part of the internet. Doesnt bother me at all
zahavasdadParticipantPlaces really cannot always prevent people from bringing in outside food. People sneak it in. I saw many times at the Kosher Delight in manhattan people bringing outside food, they snuck it in and then its difficult to stop them
zahavasdadParticipantSometimes I wonder who is frummer, Joseph or Mashiach Agent
zahavasdadParticipantThere is another thread about speaking Nivul Peh and how a refined person does not speak Nivul Peh. Does a refined person throw food?
zahavasdadParticipantHe said Literal Meaning. Some words or phrases dont have a literal meaning but rather means something else. Like the phrase “Time Flies” It doesnt literaly means time flies
zahavasdadParticipantAll languages have nivel Peh and in Hebrew it seems they are borrowed from Arabic
An etymologist is someone who studies word origins
zahavasdadParticipantI dislike coffee, however I know that Starbucks coffee is not the same as home brewed, they are more than just coffee, they are flavored
zahavasdadParticipantLanguage is different today than 150-200 years ago. There is more globalization and more communicating with all people
Like it or not English is the worlds language, It is the language spoken by More jews than any other language
zahavasdadParticipantThe Nivil Peh in Yiddish is still Nivel peh in Yiddish, however those words have been loaned to english where they have a slightly more tame meaning

It wasnt rav Yaakov Kaminetsky, It was Rav Pam
RY
If you dont want an egg on your house or a broken window, id suggest giving. Frankly it doesnt affect me anyway as its not Halloween in my neighborhood anyway
zahavasdadParticipantWhatever the original meaning might have been , the meaning has changed and while originally it was not an offensive term, It now has become one
zahavasdadParticipantThere are other nivul Peh Yiddish words that seems to have lost meaning to some and people use them on a regular basis even though that they are nivul peh according to their real meaning
October 31, 2016 11:39 am at 11:39 am in reply to: Being asked if you're dressed up for Halloween #1189080zahavasdadParticipantThere used to be a parade in Broad Channel Queens, and they would have floats that were highly offensive. One year they had a float “Chassidic Park”, so people really do that
October 31, 2016 1:46 am at 1:46 am in reply to: Being asked if you're dressed up for Halloween #1189074zahavasdadParticipantDo you mean because you are wearing Chassdic Garb?
You dont need to answer any questions you dont want to
zahavasdadParticipantThe educated and aristocratic men and women don’t use it on a daily basis.
Donald Trump is pretty aristocratic and he uses nivul Peh on a daily basis., Dick Cheney also used it quite frequently
zahavasdadParticipantLU
The idea of Sherayim is very important to Chassidim.
zahavasdadParticipantI have seen on other sites people care about people they dont know so its not unusual for people to care
zahavasdadParticipantARWS
Have you contacted your College’s financial Aid office? Sometimes they can help
Also many of the books are available online or in the College Library
zahavasdadParticipantYou have never seen a Rebbe giving out Sherayim (I think thats the word)?
The food is thrown and fought over by the chassidim of the Rebbe
zahavasdadParticipantThis thread alone is what is wrong with Shidduchim today. How can you judge someone by their yeshiva. Instead of judiging the Yeshiva, How about judging the person. Im sure there are good guys from Chofetz chaim and not such good guys and the same exists for any other yeshiva as well
zahavasdadParticipantMaking the other partner “The Bad Guy” and playing “Good Cop” “Bad Cop” is one of the worst ideas Ive seen here. You are messing with your kids heads and it could backfire as they might take sides and that side might be AGAINST YOU
zahavasdadParticipantThe opening to the Song The Final Countdown is most often (Along with Baker St) at a Chassanah when they introduce the Chassan and Kallah for the first time
But Ive heard the Opening to the Final Countdown played in other ways at Simcha events
zahavasdadParticipantAnd the Song everyone Sings Hashem Melech, Hashem Molach Hashem Yimloch is actually a French/Arabic Song by Khalid called C’est la Vie
zahavasdadParticipantAlmost every frum Simcha plays the Music from The Final Countdown by Europe. if you google it and hear you will recognize the tune immediately
zahavasdadParticipantThe Orhtodox jewish community really isnt that big even the MO community. It is likely that the person you meet on J-date or Saw you at Sinai knows someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows you
zahavasdadParticipantIf your wife does not want to be married to you, why do you even bother, Even if the Beis Din refuses to grant your divorce. Having a wife who hates you and doesnt want to be with you is not a great experience either.
I am not divorced or a divorce lawyer, but in general if a couple must get divorced an amicable divorce is the best way to go especially if there are children. Even if the couple hates either other, they need to be civil for the children.
I am guessing here, but if there is already a civil divorce, Most Beis Dins will just grant the Get, Most Beis dins really have no desire for couples to stay together who hate either other, or at least one of them wants out. They know its a recipe for disaster
zahavasdadParticipantChris Wallace the moderator
zahavasdadParticipantJ-Date and Saw you at Sinai are legitimate places to make shiduchim
October 19, 2016 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm in reply to: Question to those who used to be older singles #1187351zahavasdadParticipantPlease define “older”
For some communties 19 is “Older”
zahavasdadParticipantBringing small children to a nursing home is a very bad idea. I visit them often and there are people there with various forms of dimensia who act and say things that might be very scary for children.
While it is admirable to want to teach children to do chessed and mitzvoh, not all are appropirate for everyone
zahavasdadParticipantMaybe someone wants to watch a torahyanytime shiur.
Always try to see the positives in people
zahavasdadParticipantI think it really matters where you live. Id give different answers for NY, Florida or Israel
zahavasdadParticipantWhen you ask a cab driver for a cardiac surgeon you dont have to accept his answer. Whether you like it or not you have to accept who the Preisdent or Prime minister is, so it definatly is a better comparison.
When Moshiach comes there will be no more problem
October 16, 2016 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm in reply to: How much do you spend on your lulav and esrog? #1187651zahavasdadParticipantCTlawyer
They just sell them on the streets here via tables on the sidewalk and Pop Up stores that sell them along with some that sell other succah stuff as well
zahavasdadParticipantAY
Using the cardiac analogy is not a good one. A better example would be governmental leaders and that is part of the issue. People who live in Western free governments have trouble compartmentalizing democracy vs other forms of leadership. A gadol is a leader and in todays society people feel the right to choose their President/Prime Minister or degrade them or some other comment against them. Unfortunatly this feeling goes to Jewish leaders (Gadolim as well) . Since people associate the Gadol in the same sense as the president/Prime Minister they will treat them similary. rightly or wrongly
zahavasdadParticipantI have seen them sold
They have some uses like for Jams or Liquor
October 14, 2016 11:50 am at 11:50 am in reply to: Do you think Jewish men should start practicing polygamy again? #1190844zahavasdadParticipantWaiting for Joseph to quote someone out of context on why its the halacha
zahavasdadParticipantI prefer to put up the succah during the day as its much easier to see everything (even with lights) If for example you drop a screw, its pretty hard to find it at night, but during the day its usually pretty simple.
Most people around me usually put it up the Sunday before Succoth or the Sunday before Yom Kippur (like this year).. So most Succas were already up before Yom Kippur
zahavasdadParticipantLU
I think the Maskilim used to do that too. They would ask shailis and show chiddushes in such a way to make the torah look bad
zahavasdadParticipantDo you mean Maskilim not Maskim?
zahavasdadParticipantThe OP is a BT and still trying to find his place, He has posted before
zahavasdadParticipantLibertarinism would also hurt jewish relgious life in America
One of the unsung reasons why Yiddishkeite was able to flourish in the US was laws to protect jewish observance and the 5 day work week. Prior to the 5 day work week it was very hard not to work on shabbos and leaving early on Friday was not an option
Yeah some people did manage to get fired every week, but those people were really few and far between and most at a certain time eventually gave up.
Without laws protecting your rights, You could be fired for leaving work early on fridays or not working on Saturdays.
zahavasdadParticipantSome here think its a good idea to go to Seforim and pick out some of the things that were said , they are actually trolling and not only are they not giving kavod to the Rav, they are actually disrepcting him. Picking out statements that is known not to be so popular will lead to people to disraged the Gedolim.
the Shaila or statement is usually given in a context and out of context it will seem weird, stupid or worse and people will not respect the gadol for it
zahavasdadParticipantIts Modern, Its the high School for Yeshiva University
zahavasdadParticipantAs a side note , I dont think Rav Miller was really a Posek, he was more of a lecturer or a mussur schomoozer
zahavasdadParticipantOn many topics, there is more than one opinion and if you disagree with someone , there is likely someone else who agrees with you.
The Satmar Rebbe and Rav Kook disagreed with each other, you can disagree with one of them
