BTW if you graduate with a bs in social work many times you can finish Social work school early.

Wurzweiller has the real only paid intership program called PEP (planned for employed persons) Basically you can use your job as your field work, as long as you have a bit of a different job description or take on other responsibilties your second year.

Condition A) Someone from your work or a professor of the school that is qualified must supervise you and have regular meetings with you

    B) Your employer must be friendly to the idea and you must come with your job and work already by the time the semester begins (Ohel Hasc womens League and Hamaspik all have programs in place, just dont expect to be paid so much as you are starting out and also need a flexible schedule. Additionally, many non-jewish agencies such as ACS and YAI have similar programs with some tuition reimbursement in place (obviously certain rules and conditions apply)

In the Pep program you attend school at night and on Sundays.

C)Keep in mind that YU graduate schools are open to all though they definitely do make an effort to keep Frum ideals in perspective. Yes there are davkanicks that are lihachis against certain frum ideals but you have that in all graduate programs, at least by Wurzweiller you can speak back. Additionally all YU schools run on a Frum schedule, so no worries about yomim tovim and assignments.Aside from the PEP schedule,Wurzweiller in general has the highest amount of classes available at different times.

The knock against Wurzweiller (same against NYU Columbia Adelphi) is that it is more expensive then Hunter

To some of the above posters, why must you make fun of people receiving Brochas? A talmid chochom has awesome powers that we cannot fathom. Throughout our Mesora people have gone with their various issues to their Rebbeim and Rabbonim for help and Eitzas. Please be very careful when you dismiss the power of a sincere Bracha.

Remember you get a bracha from your parents before Yom Kippur for a reason. It is because they wish you a sincere year of Chaim as you are being judged and their wishes of Bracha help in shamayim. A true Tzaddik really cares almost like a parent about all those who come to him and their wishes for Mazel and Bracha have a tremendous Koach in Shamayim to help with the Din against you, or their tefillos might help ease a nisayon you are facing. Obviously this is also the reason for saying Tehillim and all Tefillas. Hashem listens to our heartfelt wishes. We must assume that a Tzaddik might feel a deeper Kesher to shamayim then the average person and see the true tzelem Elokim in the people that he sees as well.

Now as to why you might ask on Purim is there an inyan for getting this Rov’s Bracha? We definetly have in our Mesora as well, that Tzadikim feel that we have certain kochos of Bracha on certain days and times throughout the year.(Adar is a Mazeldike month, or another example when a baby is crying by a Bris people gathered there are suppossed to daven for their needs as it is a zman of tefilla acceptance by Hashem).

You have my permission (not that you need it) to be nervous and anxious but not depressed.Depression solves nothing and you and I both know that you will definitely be doing something come July regardless of the fact that right now you don’t know what that might be.

You said before the cost of the camps you would like to attend cost to much. What about between now and July babysit/tutor in your neighborhood /help before pesach to make extra money and perhaps you can split the difference with your parents I guarantee by the time july comes around you can get between 700-thousand dollars put together(if that would be enough)additionally, some camps (at least i know some boys camps are) are now also offering partial programs so you could maybe go for two -three weeks and then have just a week or two to worry about

There are different organizations that work with families with little kids who have big sister/big brother programs. During the summer sometimes a big sister is needed perhaps you can work as a big sister it is much different then working in a day camp.

Ask a teacher that you trust she might be of help

Also might i suggest being that as you are entering your senior year you can use some of your free time to study topics that will help you for when you take the SAT so you’ll be ahead of the game

“ive been extremely depressed lately and full of dread.

does anyone have any ideas?? i am really serious i really need help. i need ideas, and quick. thanks in advance.”

Don’t take this the wrong way but deciding which camp to go to or what activity to do in july and spending good money doing it is not exactly worthy of filling you with dread and depression. Take a chill pill and look at everything in the right perspective.

Yes you need to have a plan of what to do in the summer but, there are THOUSANDS of frum kids that would love to be able to have your dilemma, who mamash are full of dread because they cant afford anything at all to do this summer or their home situation keeps them anchored at home.

    Under your header of

” PLEASE HELP ME” I thought you were in a chas vishalom true tragic situation until I read your post more appropriate would have been to simply write about asking if anyone has ideas for the summer.

Please remember to thank Hashem for what you have and then you will be able to calmly resolve your issue at hand

you can get strong window guards that are attached to the window but the middle bars can swing out like a door leaving the whole area open for easy escape. The bars are locked in place with a padlock and you keep the key near bye nailed onto the wall in case of emergency for a quick exit

to the above poster concerned whether to filter or not:

When the whole issue of tap water filtering came out i was NOT among the first to jump on the band wagon to filter,as I felt filtering was a mishegas. (eventually my Rav who is involved in Kashrus said one should filter)

Anyway, once I started filtering, I couldn’t believe the garbage (chemical residue, dirt, brown spots from nearby construction, sediment etc…)that I found in my EZ Filter. I knew that this came from outside piping not from the pipes inside my house. I could not believe what I had been drinking prior to filtering my water. As when I poured out a cup from the tap it looked completley clear. Then I had learned that New York and other places had relied more on chemicals then a proper filtration process to cleanse its water.

If you say that in Boston you have the same ancient water delivery and filtration issues as NYC then forget about Kashrus issues, you will not believe what you are drinking.I have done a complete reversal in my thinking that filtering is a mishegas. For example during spring NYC water is filthy due to snow runoff into reservoirs, between Purim and Pesach I change the inner filter of the Ez filter twice a week as opposed to once per week/week and half as otherwise it gets clogged.(the first year this happened EZ filter was puzzled as to why customers were suddenly complaining that their filters were clogging faster and they investigated the issue)

If you dont want the clumsiness of a Brita get an EZ filter or have a plumber install a whole house or under sink filter. If you dont want to do the whole house try an EZ filter on one sink to start you wont believe what you’ll find. it’ll cost you (including a bag of inserts) around twenty bucks.

Just FYI a water project that might help filtering in NYC slated for completion 2012 you will not believe what you were drinking

dear sister bear, while we all could use improvement and extra zechusim, there are very many choshuv Rabbonim and people involved in Chesed in Chicago.I believe we all should try to be our best and then Hashem will help all of us.Tangibly this means more learning Davening and Tehillim and doing chesed for one another. Even a conscientious minute increase in these activities can tilt the scale to Rachamim and Zechus as long as we try our best. Additionally, many times people are saved due to the fact how upset people around them would become if tragedy will befall them. If we show we are united in caring for each other then we will have extra zechusim in shomayim.Ohaiv es Habriyos Ohaiv Es Hamakom.Whoever is loved by people is in turn loved by Hashem. onlySimchas

It is completely unaffiliated with crc in NY which is basically a Satmar entity. Anybody in the midwest and california knows about them and they also certify many national and commercial food products that you can buy all across the US (including in many supermarkets right here in ny)you can find many of their certified products even in heimishe stores . They are an equal equivalent of OU OK Star-k Kof-k etc.. albeit on a smaller scale. You probably have even relied on their hechsher or some their supervisory rabbonim who might work for multiple Hechsherim without even realizing it.

    A) When criticizing somebody even constructively or for benefiting them make sure it is worth it. By the fact you have to ask this question here in the coffee room shows that you might have doubts about what you are doing or thinking of doing. Speak to an objective outsider without naming names and who will not realize who your friend is and describe the problem.

B)You have not stated if it is a flaw such as weight or manner of dress or a character flaw. Regardless of issue approach it gently as perhaps your friend is already cognizant of the issue and is not able to help themselves but wants to change,or just has not reached out yet or does not want to reach out to friends for help. Whatever you do speak in a manner non-embarrassing to your friend and in a manner that you do not come across as holier then thou and a know it all (A while back I had a friend who one of our chevra felt had to be spoken to about his short temper, unbeknown to us this friend of ours was well aware of his tendency to blow up and had actually begun speaking to a therapist about how to help him control himself. He obviously never discussed this with us prior to one of us speaking to him, as he felt that it was not for public knowledge.)

    C) If you do bring the issue up with her even if she expresses her desire for your input don’t constantly bring up the issue with her afterward. If she does not want your help but does not totally blow you off perhaps she herself will bring it up to you on a later date after thinking about it for awhile or if after awhile you still see your friend not changing and it will not make the friend totally embarrassed you might want to bring it up again of course you will have to be the judge if it is worth it or not

    d) Make sure you have a way to help or guide her in a soft manner if it is an immediate issue that can be dealt with. A terrible thing would be to point out a flaw and then not know how to handle it, it will only further complicate the fact that she is aware that she has this flaw and my friend is pointing it out but I still have no ideas how to change. Even if you yourself cannot help, think of a person she could speak to or a book she could read.

e)All suggestions should be made in a non-forceful gentle manner as while you might think they are great and correct (WHICH THEY ACTUALLY MIGHT BE!)she might not. If she feels your idea is ludicrous then she might dismiss the meaningfulness of you wanting to help her as well

It is a very warm community where people accept you for being frum and are not so into chitzoniyos.

Please spend a shabbos there, even if you decide against living there i am sure you will have a nice experience. Just a reminder Waterbury near the Yeshiva has more of a mix. In the blue ridge development it so far 1/2 kollel 1/2 working but like i said whichever you decide everyone is nice.

Dear midwest2 i am a NYer and admit that my house probably would cost anywhere between 50-150 thousand less in most of the places you just mentioned. If you have four kids out of town living expenses will cost more for a frum family on a daily/year to year basis then living in Brooklyn or Queens. Out of NY there is even more expensive yeshiva and camp tuition, commuting costs, property taxes, and kosher food and neccesity of needing two cars in many of those areas. Additionally, their are of course many amenities to living in a big city such as generally better healthcare social programs etc.. I.E. if for fifteen years you are paying 10-15 thousand more a year in taxes commuting and tuition you definetly as a frum family spend more by living out of town.

Lakewood and Waterbury, are the only two places where this does not hold true as the housing prices in Waterbury are amazingly low and yeshiva tuition is low as well. Housing prices in Lakewood are much lower then many urban Jewish areas with much higher property tax but Yeshiva tuition is comparable to Brooklyn.

As having visited many times and knowing people that live there i will share with you the following:

The waterbury community is very warm everyone is accepting of others there is one yeshiva ketana rebbe/teachers all very caring. The classes are small.classes are separate after fourth grade. There are many working families. For jobs most people go to hartford stamford and west hartford 30-40 minute commutes. There is a well stocked shoprite with tons of kosher stuffs and fresh bagels. Waterbury also has a deli and a pizza store Additionally plenty of people do favors in terms of shopping needs and lifts to NY and NJ. As well as neighborly things like babysitting sharing shabbos meals etc.. You can live in waterbury proper(near the shule and yeshiva) where houses go for 150-200K depending on condition, none is less then five bedroom or you can go to blueridge which is sort of its own community on the other side of town where i believe houses start at 280 and they so far have something like twenty families there with half in kollel. Near the yeshiva(waterbury proper) there are probably 120 families.

If you want to know the downside property taxes are high and it snows more often then in ny and gets colder earlier and of course as i assume you are aware it is still growing and certain amenties you might have been accustomed to growing up might not be in place just yet.But really everything else is great.

Like anyplace though I recommend to call the yeshiva to arrange to spend a shabbos by someone to see for yourself if the place is for you. Hatzlacha wherever you end up

    Pizza Stores

If pizza stores would use aged cheese then it would be dependant on the following.According to the Yad Yehuda (who is lenient if the cheese is melted) this would be permitted even if these cheeses had a halachic status as hard, but only if the cheese is melted, and is not on top of the pizza (according to those poskim who understand thisas being the view of the Yad Yehuda).76 If one holds the Yad Yehuda is lenient even if it

is melted on the food (and not mixed in entirely) then one would not have to wait in either case with regard to pizza.

    Reply to sacrilege:From halachichally speaking

The Rama:39 quotes an opinion that says one only has to wash his mouth out and

wash his hands after eating hard (aged) cheese (see above). One should not be rebuked for

relying on this opinion and not waiting.40 Some say to wait at least an hour.41 However,

many poskim are of the opinion that these opinions should not be relied upon and one

should wait six hours after eating hard cheese42 just as one does after eating meat.43 The

custom of some of the Sefardim is to wait only an hour,44 while other Sefardim do not

wait at all but wash their mouth out, eat something, and wash their hands from residue

    (see above).45

    42. Even if he wants to eat a meat dish afterwards (Ben Ish Chai Shlach 2:15, Chochmas Adom 40:12).

    43. Pri Megadim M.Z. 89:4, Pri Chadash 16, Ben Ish Chai ibid, Shiurei Beracha 89:13, Chochmas Adom 40:13,

do not wait anything (Halichos Olom 7:pages 46-47 Shulchan Aruch Hamekutzar 4:page 252, but one still has to

wash out his mouth, eat something, and wash his hands, see above). According to this last view, one who used to wait

because he thought it was ossur not to wait, can start eating meat after dairy without waiting and there is no need for

The opinion of the Yad Yehuda58 according to a few poskim59 is that if the hard (aged)

cheese is melted by cooking it then one does not have to wait six hours after eating it

(before eating meat). Many do not accept this leniency.60 A spreadable Swiss cheese

even if it may be aged for longer than six months, is cooked to make it into a spread,

and one can rely on the Yad Yehuda since the cheese remains soft.

only pertains to cheese melted into food, whereas hard cheese melted onto food which

is not integrated to become part of another food remains subject to the above waiting

period.61 Therefore, one who eats hard cheese which is melted onto toast is required to

    wait six hours.62

    60. The opinion of Harav Elyashiv Shlita is if aged cheese is used on pizza (melted) then one has to wait six hours

(Hechsheiros page 280:footnote 121), Star-K (http://www.star-k.org/cons-faqs-status.htm), see Ben Ish Chai Shlach

the Yad Yehuda would make sense only according to the reason that the cheese is left in the mouth, but the reason of

taste lingering would apply even after it is melted. Refer to Ohr Yisroel 6:page 89, Halichos Shlomo Moadim page

If you are talking about NYC marine park is great agree totally with HIE they even have their own little community magazine and of course they are adjacent to marine park itself and are right next door to flatbush/midwood they have two large shuls and like a dozen smaller ones In long Island many people have moved to west hempstead.Outside of ny is waterbury you can get an old seven bedroom for between 150-180 thousand and a custom house in blue ridge for like 280-350 people from waterbury are very nice and the yeshiva ketana is extremly reasonable and they generally work in hartford stamford and west hartford 30-40 minute commute

As a New yorker i can attest that while we are stable and growing it is only due to demand and large population. While chasidim explode in Kensington Bp and Willy The non-chasidish rate of growth has slowed down. It used to be if a person in flatbush five towns Queens etc.. had five kids 3-4 out of the five would stay within the five boroughs now it’s more like 2-3 out of five staying. There are very few non-chasidish schools with growing enrollment most others are large but stable.Out of town however is even worse with lakewood seeming as a tantalizing destination for anyone in learning. What I dont understand is cleveland has telz, chicago brisk and skokie baltimore Ner yisrael etc.. Why cant chavrusas just stay local why shlep out from the community you grew up in? all above listed places are true makom torahs, and to the parents that complain about losing their young couples support them to learn locally just like you support them to learn in lakewood.

JUST as an aside please be aware that most of Bennys Pizza on ave M and Avenue J including regular slices is made with hard cheeses as oppossed to plain pizza cheese or mozzerella. it makes it taste good but according to most ashkenazic Poskim and hashgochas including the OU you must wait six hours after eating many of their pizzas. They should really have a sign stating such. As this could be a problem on friday

    Post about Chasam Sofer

bThe stories of the chasam sofer and his shidduchim are very well known. His first wife while a tzadekess unfortunatly died young and childless, his second wife whom he had children with was the daughter of Rav Akiva Eiger ZTL.

I do not recall such a story, such as joking about fahering a father in law from his biographies. One excellent Bio published a few years ago is titled “The Light from the west” (I believe Feldheim published it)It is a translation into English from a bio written in Europe prior to the holocaust. Aside from a good read it also sheds light into the times and Tzaddikim in Europe that the Chasam Sofer grew up in, and gives valuable insight into the unbelievable persecution faced by Rav Nosson Adler ZTL, who was the prime Rebbe and father figure of the Chasam Sofer, from various Kehillos as he tried introducing minhagim such as saying Lecha Dodi(which as we all now know has become the norm to say in every shul Friday Night).

As an aside, it is easy to take for granted that the wide spread use of Lecha Dodi is a fairly recent phenomena given are long Jewish history.I am NOT an expert on the history of the Chasam Sofer but this does not sound like him. And again I am NOT 100% sure that you are mistaken. Please verify the story you posted otherwise this story could be an affront to the Chasam Sofer ZTL If what you wrote is true I apologize for hastily judging Kesiva Vechisima Tova

A friend of mine took out a girl who was visiting NY. She was British and had arrived to NY only two days earlier. When my friend picked her up as they got out of the house she was staying by it was raining and the girl didnt have an umbrella and she decided to quickly run to the car so as not to mess up her makeup. My friend was quite surprised when the girl out of habit got into the car on the drivers side.(In england passenger side)After a few seconds of standing outside the car my friend politely asked if he could help her, the girl suddenly realized what she had done. they both laughed it off and had a fine date no they are not married. I subsequently found out from a British girl that it once almost happened to her but she stopped herself and quickly went around the car. In the same vain a friend of mine married a girl from england. When he went to visit for the first time he was mortified as he almost walked into oncoming traffic three times during his first week when out with the kalla’s family(BTW a high number of American tourists are injured/killed this way)
