i heard from my mashgiach that the tur says betzibur. when you finish it betzibur you will get arichus yamim since its betzibur and hashem doesnt kill a tzibur… or something upon those lines, and now when they came down to mitzraim “Shivim nefesh” they became a tzibbur …

another peshat he gave why davka in shemos was to tell you even if you didnt do bereishis you should start from shemos and carry on (and be mashlim bereishis another time)

rabeinu yona has 3 reasons for the mitzvah of eating on erev yom kippur. 1)Since you cant do vesomachtoh v’chagecho on yom kippur we do it on ever yom kippur. 2)To give us koach to fast for yom kippur (and its only a hechsher mitvah) 3) to show that were happy that we are getting a kapora

the ksav sofer says l’fi r’yonas reasons, women are chiyuv.

(lichoirah R’ akiva eiger is going lefi reason 2)

btw rumour has it that two wweeks ago someone asked r chaim kanvievsky a sheaila to do with tischa baav and r chaim said its not a sheaila as moshiach will be here first. i dont know whether that story is true or not but i know someone personally who r shmuel aurbach told him that for these last few days before mashiach comes he should try be a better person. and another person i know who went to r’ shmuel wosner and r shmuel told him not to return to london as moshiach is coming.

referring to the first story a bochur in yeshiva sent a letter to r’ chaim and part of his sheila was if the rumour is true. he sent it two weeks ago motzei shabbos unfortunately he hasnt received a reply.

call a pizza shop who do deliveries and ask them ‘DO you deliver?’ when they say ‘yes’ ask: ‘Can i please have 2 chicken livers’ and then they will say ‘we don’t do liver’ so you ask ‘does that mean i have to come pick my order up’ and they answer ‘no we deliver’ and it just goes on and on….

if you keep 1st half (2nd night pesach – lag baomer) then you should be allowed

Although in london most people keep 1st half, there is never weddings during the second half (and there are lots of chasunas during 1st half). My uncle says that this is proof that the minhag hamokom of london is 2nd half (which i think most yekkes do)

In GGBH most people take off during hagbah but we (my family) take off once the sefer torah is back in the aron hakodesh as my grandfather showed us a halacha that one can’t take off ones teffilin when the sefer torah is out of the aron hakodesh because when you take off your teffilin you are being megaleh your head – i’ll try find where the halachah is

well what are the latest theories?

    1)

the americans have a military airport on a small island in the indian ocean, where they keep B-52 bombers. apparently they shot the plane or landed the plane b/c there was:

    a) a chinese scientist was on board the flight and it “wasn’t in Americas interest” that the scientist reached his destination.

    b) a group of 22 Indian people from a company which deal in “making planes ‘invisible'” – (i’m not sure if this has to do with the Americans or if these indians just succeeded in their job…)

btw i didnt just make up the theory by myself, its apparently true…

    Any other interesting theories???

My dad saw an answer in R’ Zvi Hirsch Ferbers sefer. He says that if one makes a shevuah or a neder to someone who is ill its not chal b/c the only reason he makes it is to appease the person. So yaakov didn’t want Yoisef to know that he was a choileh otherwise the neder which he asked him to make wouldn’t be chal. So then it says ‘Vayehi achar hadevarim ha’ele’ after the neder which he made then he was told that yaakov was ill.

(Its still a bit of a kasha as rashi says that Efraim learnt with yaakov and WHEN HE BECAME ILL he sent him to call Yoisef which is mashma that he wasn’t ill before)

i have another question. We say on Chanukah in Al Hanisim ‘Matisyohu BEN YOCHANAN’ what Shychus does Yochanan have here? He became a Apikores? theres no need to mention him?

(and also by Purim we say say ‘Mordechai v’esther’ and dont say who mordechai’s father was?)

i heard an answer today from R’ Elchanan Halpern Shlit”a

When they found the oil they found it buried in the ground of the Azarah, b/c a goy is considered to have Tumei Zovim – and this tumah is metamei even with just moving something. So had the oil been lying around the Yevonim would have moved it thus making it Tamei.

So we ask that maybe they did move it? we have a Klal that Sofek Tumeh nirshus harabim is tahor so even had the jug been lying around it would have been Tohor in anyway? Why did it have to be in the ground?

The Yidden planned to use an 1/8 of the Tahor oil each day and then pour in the rest of tomei oil and it would be botul (by doing it slowly, drop by drop each drop is botul). But although we say that Sofek tumeh birshus harabim is tahor it doesnt have the power to be mevatel tamei oil so it had to be buried so that there would be no Safek.

This was the nes that on the first day they found oil which there was no safek whether it was tahor or tamei

Yaff80: it could be he only switched b/c of Minhag Hamokem.

Anonymous1000: i suppose it depends on who you are.

Those who daven Ashkenaz are the ones who say you can switch from Sefard to Ashkenaz but not the other way round, whilst those who daven sefard will tell you that you can change from Ashkenaz to Sefard.

I heard an answer over Shabbos. There’s a Medrash that says After the akeida Yitzchak went to Gan Eidan to learn for two years. (Btw that’s how yitzchak knew what Gan Eidan smelt like when he smelt Yaakov) For yitzchak they weren’t counted as years as he didn’t physically live. So really when Yaakov and Eisav were born although Yitzchak was 60 Avrohom was 162. So 13 years later when Eisav started serving Avoida Zora, Avrohom was 175.

WolfishMusings: Im not saying this is p’shat but what Outreach613 could be correct.

It says that Shem told Rivka that ‘there are two nations in your womb’

then it says that ‘her time came to give birth and there were twins in her womb’ – it could be that either she gave birth to a still born and then the posuk is refering to after that ‘and there were twins in her womb’ or the torah is only telling us about the ‘alive babies’ so it says that ‘there were twins in her womb’ – two living babies

as far as i know there is no real way to restrict ipods/ipads properly, unless you block the appstore as well; otherwise you can just download the FREE google app

if its a iPad go to settings and press on ‘Restrictions’ and make a password.

i am not sure if you can block wifi but you can block ‘safari’ – the internet app.

you can also block anything including the camera (camera was just a random example)

to unblock it all you need to do is go back to settings and press on restrictions, type in the password and click on whatever you want to restrict

Someone ‘donated’ money to my school to buy 30 iPads and they are all restricted like that.

the only way to get around it is if you know the password (btw – i know the password to the ipads in school even after they have changed it countless times…)

ive had rheumatoid arthritis for the last 3 years and at first my local doctor told me it was just growing pains but then i was refered to a hospital (as an outpatient)and after blood tests, MRI’s, Ultra sounds they found that i had arthritis. At first i was on Naproxon and then i was referred to another hospital (as an outpatient) and was seen by ‘the best doctor of rheumatoid arthritis in Europe’ and was prescribed with Metotrexate a very strong Anti Inflamatery and am required to go for blood tests every 1 1/2 months to monitor it. i also had one of my knees drained of fluid with a needle and then they injected a very strong anti inflametry in it. Athritis is basically when the imune system fights against the joints and this medication weakens the imune system.

Hopefully you are better, Intellegent, and i am too late to help you but i thought i would share it anyway for any others who might be suffering from this condition.
