So were many of mine, don’t feel bad.

Try something less controversial, like giving up Har HaBayis.

Might I suggest you buy a space heater? I think they go for about 30$.

I know nothing about landlord laws, but Halachicly it sounds like Gramma. Ask your LOR.

limud comes before covod cannot be applied so broadly, certainly not to a Godol removing his pants before a rabbim. do you think a Godol would teach while sitting on a Sefer Torah to make some point of limud?

If needed, Yes. No less than Avraham Avinu told Eliezer to place his hand on his Makom Milah, since it was needed. (Just thought of that off hand as an example, don’t ask me specific questions)

I don’t feel you need to follow his Mehalech (I’m not of that camp), so don’t feel it is required. I imagine many Roshei Yeshiva would never think to do such a thing.

    I just learned something:

Someone who discovers they are wearing shatnez is required to remove the garment immediately.

Of Course. That is the point.

    Mr. 80:

That is why I said the second point. Limud goes before Kavod.

Besides, if it did actually happen, do you have a Hava Amina that Kavod HaTorah would be Doche the Issur of Shatnez?

    TBT:

Of course he didn’t, he would be well over 120 at this point (for real Kelm).

The idea is Mussar vs. a non Mussar approach.

OC: That assumes the Gadol cares one Iota for his own Kavod, and doesn’t feel the lesson taught to his talmidim is more critical.

There are many, many frum woman doctors out there.

Like SJS said, prepare early, and decide if you think it is the right career for you, and then go full steam and give it nothing but your all.

(Not to hijack the thread, but) Being a doctor, especially an OBGYN for the frum community (as a distant relative of mine is), is an extremely rewarding career, and serves Klal Yisroel in a way that very few women are able to do.

    Another taste of Kelm:

(I have heard of, but have not seen for myself) A well know Gadol who is still alive today (AMUSH) who says in the middle of a Shmuz “This is what has to be done if you find out your pants are Shatnez” and goes ahead and takes them off (in front of all those present).

    Sheviras Hamiddos!

    May we be so strong.

One of the Gedolim of yesteryear (I forget whom) used to say that we don’t scream “Shabbos!” at cars because we think it might help, but only to reinforce our own beliefs.

I believe the same concept would apply here as well. People want to think that their way is “right” and don’t complain or judge to think what is right, but to support their own shittah.

You have to do what is right.

What everyone else does is their own problem.

Hashem knows what is Yashrus, and what is not, and He keeps a cheshbon.

And everyone gets judged by the Judge.

I’m also shocked! I have never hear of this in a black-hat community. It’s even unusual in MO world and only occurs with far-left MO.

    Agreed.

    Conservodox, maybe?

Just shows you a black hat does not frum make.

And I’m sure there will be those who are Melamed Zechus. I would like to do so as well, but can’t think of anything, especially in BP.

It is that they are “muktza” due to being “Shtarei Hedyotos”. (Not really Muktza, but subject to that Issur)

Similar to any paper with ads in it, which is actually worse. Shelas Shalom (such as your novel, assuming that is what one holds) is only a Gezairah for real shtarei hedyotos.

(Which is why there has been a movement to add to them “please do not read on shabbos”, as I have seen a number of times).

The exception for jewish novels is possibly due to them having the halachic status of a sefer, due to their mussar message.

See SA OHC 307:13 for more info.

Anyone who is taught fear of the other will belittle and dehumanize them. This will cause them to disrespect, after all he/shee is only a “fill in your term here”.

Both yeshivish & non-yeshivish families can dehumanize others.

I have seen it done here by some posters, and have called them out for it (specificly for using a term for non whites).

But those who push the fear of the other (which we see many times in both Yeshivish & non Yeshivish families) will “encourage bad middos” towards those other groups.

    Aidim.

If the proposal is done in private, or even with only family there, there are no aidim and there are no questions; it CAN NOT be for Kiddushin.

Alt: If the ring has a stone, we Paskin it can not be used for Kiddushin as is (see Keddushin 7b-8a).
