When the suggestion was brought up in the Knesset to allow Israelis abroad to vote, Moron Harav Shach opposed it strongly – despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of chareidim abroad would have been able to take advantage of the law of return and then vote, and that few of our non religious brethren would vote. Moron Harav Shach said decisively there is enough machloikes in eretz Yisroel, we do not need export it to chutz la’aretz.

Moron R’ Dovid soloveitchik shli”a accepted R’ moshe Twersky zatza”l and lebcl”c R’ Lichtenstein, despite their being from not such such a brisker background, and the two quickly developed into tremendous talmidim and were really koine his derch halimmud and hashkafois, his yiras shomayim and enthuasism for learning. Both developed into Anoshim Gedoilim in their own right, and r’ lichtenshtein is eminently suited for the post.

    Concerning golders Green,

if one takes the A! from beginning to end – or even finchley road – does one not actually 600k in a day? I find it hard to believe that the entire a1 does not have 600k. Surely every agrees that 600k do ot need to be ine one place?

I DO NOT KNOW WHO SUGGESTED THAT THE OPPOSTION TO THE LONDON EIRUV IS “PURELY POLITICAL”, BUT THEY SHOULD BE AWARE THAT HAGA’ONIM R; PINCHOS ROBERTS, R’ GERSHON HAGER, R’ CHIM FELDMAN F MUNKS AND R’ DOVID KOHN ARE ALL OPPOSED, AND ALL HOLD THAT CAN STILL MAKE AN EIRUV CHATZEIROIS WITH A BROCHO.

    .

NONE OF THEM HAVE PUBLICISED THEIR VIEWS OUT OF THEIR OWN KEHILLA, IN FACT RABBI KOHN WILL ONLY ANSWR THE SHAILO WHEN DIRECTLY ASKED, NONE HAVE REFUSED ALIYOS OR THE OMUD TO PEOPLE WHO LISTEN TO OTEHR RABBONIM, AND NONE ARE INVOLVED IN POLITICS.

    .

R’ Y.M. FREEDMAN IS ALSO OPPOSED, AS IS RABBI B. KNOFLER, AND IF YOU KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN GOLDERS GREEN, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND THAT IT CANNOT BE POLITICAL.

    ANOTHER MOIRDEIGE MA’ASEH

    .

A talmid of R’ Shmu’el kamenetzky was getting married in eretz Yisroel. he contacted his rebbe, and offered him a ticket. R’ shmuel agreed to come with one condition, that he is NOT mesader kiddushin, it being that the chosson was then learning by Maran R’ Dovid Solovaitchik.

    .

The talmid proceeded to invite R’ dovid to the chuppa, and offered him siddur kiddushin.

    .

When R’ dovid arrived at the chuppa, he saw R’ Shmu’el. Recognising who R’ shmuel was, he insisted that R’ shmu’el be mesader. R’ shmu’el however insisted that he had only come on condition that R’ dovid be mesader.

Concerning the original pirtzah of the ten amos, there is a clear letter from maran R’ elyshiv zatzla to r’ Betzalel Rakow of gateshead, where he described Grach no’eh shiurim as having been the standard minhag both lekula and lechumra. It’s printed in koivets teshuvois t. 30, and some nored people hang it up in e”y every now and again.

    J. again iwm sorry fot the misuderstanding, although i realise why you misuderstood me. let me explain.

    .

The shulchan Oruch lists two options for what defines a reshus harabim de’oyraisa, who in our context a place where an eiruv does not help.

    1) any road 16 amos wide

2)yesh oimrim, a road on which 600,000 travel every day.

    .

Although the pashtus in mechaber may sound like the first shita, as he refers to the secod as a yesh oimrim, nonetheless, the mogan Avraham, Taz, and Mishna Berura, all clearly state that one who chooses to rely on te makilim ??? ????? ???? the Taz further adds that this was indeed the minhag.

    .

It being that there is no road in london which reaches that amount it may seem obvious the room for kula.

    .

At this point, both the Chazoin Ish and r’ moishe throw a spanner in the works. The yesh oimrim in the mechaber is based on Rashi and the Mordechai, yet they do not refr 600,000 every day, rather to a town of 600k. As such they suggest that roads in such towns may have problems.

R’ moishe however carefully defines this, howver. (orach chayim 4, t.117&118) He points out thta in the midbar there was more than 600k, there fore one needs to take into the account the wider fmailies of the diglei midbar. He also limits it to roads that are built ot serve most of the town. This was the bsic reasoning for ossering the Brooklym eruv.

    .

R’ Roberts, R’ Padwa senior zatzal, R’ ehalpern [S’dei Elchonon] and the michas Yitzchok, all felt that this is a problem in london too.

    .

R’ Roberts would not expect his kehilla not to shave, etc…, he however feels that the eruv is a de’oraysa. He was however pointing out to those hwo may have heard to the contrary, that nonetheless they should take his opinion into account due to the severity of the matter.

Rabbi of Berlin, sorry for the misunderstanding, but i learnt in PH in the 1990’s, and am now based in e”y.

    /

Just to bring out the point, i was in PH when the headmaster was Rabbi k., the school uniform, including socks, was grey, and before anyone thought of shabbos shoes, so if Rabbi K, took yur shoes, you were in seriusly painful and embaassing trouble. And he did it often. If you click on my user name you can reach other threads where it has been discussed recently.

    .

Concerning R’ Slifkin – who is also english, like me and you, i have no idea who you are, so i cannot know if you compare to the gedoilei toira u’mada listed above. I definitely respect you if you do. However, i found your refernece to the emperor’s new clothes somewha disgusting.

    Rabbi of Berlin:

R’ Elya Ber wachtfoigel, R’ Aharon Feldman, and most noticably Harvard and MIT graduate R’ Moshe Meiselman were all opposed to Slifkin, so to suggest that the emperor has no clothes is a chutzpa and azus, and has no space on a yeshivishe web site.

    .

If i am not mistaken he has discussed the matter with R eider zt”l and fet that R’ moshe would have ossered.

Niztchu ereleim es hametzukim was adi at the peitra of rebi and is often used in levaya announcement in E”Y, it means that the metzukim – people down here wanted him, as did the erelim, the alochim and he malochim won.

The intent in this case, was that the metzukim did NOT want him here, the malochim did NOT want him upstairs, the metzukim won and sent him off.

I think you can say it even if he was a goy.

i heard that in a certain chassidus they don’t have haircuts from rosh hashana until parshas mikeits, and if a kid messes up in school, they forcinly shave his hair on zero.

I sure hope it’s not true. If it is true it is a whole new low in school punishments.

There is nothing like hearing that your old school is featured in the yeshiva world coffee room.

Popa Bar abba, STOCKHOLM SYNDROME is when an abused person starts to look as an abuser as his saviour, normally when he associates strong emotional feeelings to their relationships. MATURITY is when a person recgonises the abuse for what it is, and nonetheless sees the entire picture.
