Each of us knows in the depths of our hearts ways in which we do not live “with the presence of the shechina” unless we cannot be honest with self, each knows ways we can improve. Instead of looking to gedolim to have ruach hakodesh and tell us what we need to fix and then have it part of chat room chatter about how do they know and who said, let each person pick one way he/she will bring self closer to shechina and shechina closer to the world.

Now I ask us all…….. should we be frivolously whiling away out time “unwinding ” in chat rooms, or get the message that maybe we can do better with the opportunity Hashem is giving us every minute??

Ironic that this topic of murder s preceded by one who opened a discussion about going to the movies. Maybe we need to worry about the movie we are currently scripting, writing and star acting in…………

1-Veahavta lirayacha….. . what would you want to be done for you if the situation is reversed?

2- If their reaction will be damaging it needs to be addressed……… even if the answer to 1 is yes.

It is 2 separate Mitzvos. You cannot do nichum at the levaya…… only after kevura

Levaya is a chessed for the departed. Nichum is primarily for the living. 2 Mitzvos, 2 purpose, 2 times. The question will be if I can go to a levaya to “a” or be menachem by “b”, which takes precedence? That answer will be the same if I am conflicted by which to participate in if only one family is involved.

In light of the time of year and added seriousness of recent events, is this what we have degraded to deem significant enough to spend out GD given time and energy??? Amazing. great mussar lesson for when I get back to the classroom……. and for me for today!

    What purpose does this serve???

Many Poskim hold that one must be able to feel the ground beneath him and therefore one cannot wear anything which has thick soles or is padded. Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik ztl was very scrupulous about this for Yom Kippur, Tisha B’Av and avelilus of shiva. And yes, inuy does mean suffering of a certain type. Many won’t sit on padded chairs during shiva either …………… one adam gadol told me “my mother is worth one week of discomfort” The Bais Hamikdahs is for sure worth it!!

Hashgacha Pratis. Hashem is still in charge of the world. Obviously Hashem tested you to see if you will listen to the shiur HE wanted you to hear… We say in Ani Maamin that Hashem has created, is creating and will created every thing which happens in the world. Time to strengthen Emuna and Bitachon!!

If we follow trhe rules of Tefilah as outlined in Halacha, washing, proper dress, contemplating for a moment before I start, becoming aware of what I am about to do, focusing on the meaning of the words (easy in a day when so many types of translations are out there), talking as if I was really issuing heartfelt thanks and anxious requests, then we would not even think of texting, writing, chess, or even thinking of other things. HIS presence will be felt…….. really felt……. quite an opportunity for a daily meaningful experience. It is available to all those who want to strive for it and who focus on it and ask Hashem for his help in making it happen. It nees our RATZON.

Adocs- much appreciate your reply. Rav Pam zt”l said that for Brachos, any part of the body which is normally covered and is now uncovered has a din of Erva regarding reciting Brachos just as it has a din that if you touch that part of the body you must wash your hands before davening, learning or reciting a Bracha. He told his Talmidim to try to educate campers in camp who may play ball in shorts that if they want to make a Bracha prior to taking a drink they should place a towel to cover the legs not covered by the shorts. While others may say that it is the proper exposure for summer, he did not feel that way.

I’d love to meet the teen who felt the way I wrote…. a good shidduch prospect for my grandchildren. Not quite yet though.

We need to increase tzniyius in speech, dress, deal in stores, even the way we walk. Tzniyus is not about dress. dress is part of Tzniyus. Eating in the street, shouting in the street, walking in a way that does not engender respect for Judaism are all various levels of a breach of Tzniyus. The women by the pool is certainly not acceptable. Test yourself. If an adam gadol went for a swim do you think he would feel comfortable if you stood there watching him? It is a litmus test. If you knew you would meet a Rav Chashuv in the street would you be licking your cone in teh street?? Would you eat at a table in the middle of the street?? The Chashuvim are a mashal for Hashem. The beginning of Shulcha Aruch beseeches us to act as if the Shechina is opposite us. because HE is!!

Men should feel, uncomfortable swimming when women are watching. Bathing suits are water wear underwear and I hope men would feel uncomfortable in the presence of women if all thye had on was underwear.

Tniyus means acting in sucha way that you are aware of Hashems presence. Hatznaya leches IM Hashem, walk modestly with Hashem… modest is the characteristic of Hashem, one when we emulate it invites HIS presence.Just as one cannot say a bracha when wearing a bathing suit unless he covers himself up because of “erva” one should not be in the presence of women in such a state. Women should not make men feel uncomfortable by being around the pool……. it is unfair and wrong.

It may be worthwhile to form an ongoing shiur to give chiuzuk in Emunah and Bitachon so that we all have the strentgh, the avoda dand the koach to face the nisayon wiht simcha. The shechina will reside with simcha, not wiht bitterness, sadness, complaints or negative attitude. Emunah bItachon are the “aleph bais” of Yiddishkeit and each person, especially at time of nisayon, needs to frotify oneself..Support for each othere can be shared at a shiur as well, but it will be in context of “aleph bais”!!

middlepath – if you grew the girl/boy in the garden (meaning you did the shidduch yourself) you would not have to pay the shadchan!!

Secondly- yes everyone has a predetermined match. But as I have heard form many greats, sometimes we say NO to the one it was supposed to be for one or more of many reasons. The shadchan could be the one to turn it around and restore the person to their originally intended. Possible, no?

A shadchan needs to be paid

The Steipler frequently asked people who were experiencing shalom bauis problems or fertility problems if the shadchan was paid. Get the source and send a shaliach to them to explain why this is a bizayon, why it can have negative ramifications and why al pi Shulcha Aruch of law and of midos they need to fulfill their chiyuv.. The florist got paid as did the caterer, music, hall, landlord etc. now the shadchan. When I am mesader kiddushin I inform them that I will not get under that chupah unless the shadchan is paid.

No chiyuv to be mochail a monetary obligation without due reason and cause.

My daughter got married within the last year….. fewer than 20 percent of the people gave any gift. This is own from 3 years earlier when over 35 percent gave a gift to my older child……. still not the 70 percent that gave at my wedding a few decades ago. I guess the economic downturn has taken a toll in this area. Join the club!

A bechina is not common.. mostly because the bachrim refuse……. but there should not be any philosophical rejection of the idea.

An advantage is that one get to see the involvement and simcha- if it exists- when Torah is discussed.

Health- 1- And if it is hot?

2- What is the best way to educate our kids.. … take the temp of the meat…… or have 2 separate ones and explain to them that out of a sense of Yiras Shamayim we would not to chas vshalom mix… or embarrass a guest (Dioraysa)who touches it to the hot-warm-cold meat.

What about the possibility of the suction of the squeeze bottles sucking in the fleishik fluid. Aren’t these at least legitimate concerns??? ever see people put ketch on pizza??? Even adults frequently touch it…. kids for sure. NOt even talking about the greasy fingers on the outside.

Gavra – correct, but the tone should be one of Yiras Shanmayim and kavod not one that smells a bit of sarcasm

re: salads If you carefully observe people when they take salads using a communal spoon or salad fork, unfortunately some are not careful and touch the plate into which they are dishing the salad. If they already have chicken, meat, cholent on the plate (particularly if they are taking a second helping) then the spoon has come in contact with real fleishiks. If it goes back into the salad bowl you have a real shayloh about the status of the salad and need a psak and maybe rely on a kula to permit it as parve. Many people therefore remove it before bringing meat to the table so that they can reuse it with a milchik Shalosh seudos or Melave Malka.

The problem exists also when squeezing ketchup or mustard form a container. People, especially children accidentally touch the fleish on the plate.

You are defacto denigrating real Halacha and the topic as mentioned in Pirkei Avos of our obligation to “assu syag laTorah” to make a fence around the Halchos so we do not violate them. Chumra has a real place in Halacha…. do not start something which may cause loss of respect for real geniune Halacha based valid chumros. Thin ice… not worth it. Certainly not when the focus of these parshios of Miriam and of the meragliim is being careful with speech
