Noone has ( unless I missed it ) the 2 major reasons for wives going to work:

    1. The kolel system. Unless one or both parents are providing support, somebody has to bring in income while the husband is learning
    2. Yeshiva tuition. In my experience, yeshivas are reluctant to grant reductions in tuition to enable the mother to stay home

What was the sin of Banks and Jordan? They wanted to ask questions as to why pleas of the Capitol police for more help was ignored ( by Pelosi ). Pelosi only wants committee members who think like her, which will result in a lack of any belief in the accuracy of its findings. Recent polls have shown that the % public having confidence in the committee is dropping

This commission is a far cry from being impartial. Pelosi rejected Jordan and Banks but included Adam Schiff, a hyper political politician who repeatedly lied about having ( but never presented) damning evidence about Trump? She included 2 anti Trump Republicans. In many respects, this is simply Pelosi’s third attempt at impeaching Trump.

An example of a kashrus overreach. About 25 to 30 years ago, the Vaad of the Five Towns decided to add a second page to their hashgacha posted in store windows. Right side dealt with. Kashus in the store. The left side dealt with how the owners lived at home ( i.e. tznius, hair covering, did wife wear pants, did man daven with minyan etc ). All the stores refused, saying their personal lives were none of their concern . The Vaad backed down

20 years ago the yeshiva my great nephew told my niece that he was ADD . Basis for the diagnosis? They expected him ,at the age of 7, to sit at his desk from 9 to 6 with virtually no recess and 1 hour for lunch. To the school’s surprise by 3 pm he would get antsy, lose concentration and would get hit by the rebbe for not knowing the place.
Instead of medicating, my niece found another yeshiva that was more accommodating and by the time he was 9 he had the zitzfliesh to sit and not get antsy

Additionally, the use of the term Jim Crow by Biden cheapens the term. I know how I feel when non Jews use Holocaust to describe relatively mild situations. Actual Jim Crow entailed lynchings and severe restrictions on voting rights, civil liberties ( i.e. separate white and black bathrooms, water fountains, schools, lunch counters)

GH, I would venture to say not one ballplayer has actually read the law. They very likely are going by the calm words of our great uniter, President Biden, who dishonestly called it a Jim Crow law.
The President was awarded 4 Pinocchios for his distortions by the left wing Washington Post. For example, the President said that the polls would have to close by 5 pm.
If anything, it is the Democrats and people like GH who are the true racists. After all, they are alleging that black and Latino voters lack ID’s and the intelligence to be able to understand what it takes to acquire one. BTW, is it racist for Delta to require a picture ID to board a plane? For the Post Office to require and ID to pick up your mail? To get a passport?
Major League Baseball is being very hypocritical. Rob Manfred, the Commissioner, is a member of the Augusta ( Georgia ) National Golf Club and plans on attending the Masters Golf Tournament this week. Until recently only white men were allowed to be members but this doesn’t bother Manfred. Baseball has also formed business relationships ( as has the National Badketball Assoc ) with China, which has put 1,500,000 Uighurs into concentration camps

I sometimes wonder when I hear a crush based upon the Aramaic letters in the Torah since that’s that how the Torah was written for centuries . How do we know that sifrei Torah had been written in Paleo-Hebrew ? The Sanaritans, who copied everything we did when the Assyrians brought them in, still write their sifrei torah in Paleo-Hebrew.

Reb Eliezer, you picked a poor example. We’ve had a calendar for approximately 1700 years so the reason is extremely unlikely, if not impossible. to reoccur.
I also wonder how Chassidim were able to abandon centuries of minhagim, to the point of even changing nusach and th ed definition of zman tefilah. I’ve heard the reasons but all it means is that you can’t change/abandon minhag except when you want to.

Here’s what I find fascinating. Liberals and leftists fight against any measure that requires a photo ID for registration and voting. They base it on the belief that it somehow discriminates against people of color and poor people. Yet there is no objection when it comes to air travel as the truth is anybody can easily obtain, and in fact already has, as an ID

If you examine prewar Southern newspapers and speeches, particularly those by Jefferson Davis, states rights was very low on the list of reasons. Slavery was number 1. It was only after the war, as people were trying to recast their images, was states rights highlighted as part of the “Lost Cause” fairy tale.

Charlie, ct lawyer where were you for the last 9 months? What happened in Washington was an inevitable outgrowth of the continuous unchecked rioting and violence in Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis and elsewhere. Police were told to back off as noone was prosecuted. People were assaulted, raped and murdered in the peaceful Seattle autonomous zone. A CNN reporter reported peaceful protests in , I believe Wisconsin, while fires raged behind him. Did you protest when BLM looted and destroyed businesses with impunity? When they killed that retired cop in St Louis ? When BLM rioters in LA branched off to deface shuls and day schools in Fairfax?

I’m a driver , jogger and a bicyclist ( obviously not at same time ) and I find that many bike riders don’t follow the rules of the road or use common sense, thus putting themselves at risk.
Pre pandemic , I would walk from Penn Station to 16 st to see my doctor. I wish I had a dollar for every bike riding the wrong way against traffic, running red lights. riding on the sidewalk or listening to music on headphones.i actually saw one guy texting while riding .
Can drivers be careless? Absulutely but since a bicycle offers little protection in a collision with a car, in behooves a cyclist to be extra cautious and aware of their surroundings

Reb Eliez, I’m still at a loss to understand your positions on Covid. The original projections called for over 2 million deaths. The President in February closed our borders to China and Europe., ramped up production of ventilators, set up Fauci’s commission and established whirlwind process for a vaccine. Remember, while this was going on, what were the Democrats doing? Distracting the country with the impeachment hearings. Democratic senators were ignoring Covid Covid hearings to attend impeachment hearings. Biden was against closing the borders and Pelosi was encouraging people to party in Chinatown and Cuomo as late as mid MARCH was still telling people not to over react . Unlike Trump, Cuomo is directly responsible for 10000 nursing home deaths. He forced nursing homes to take Covid patients while a hospital ship and a hospital built inside the Javits Center , both provided by Trump, sat empty.

So, tell me what Biden would have done different.

Ubuiqutin, you don’t have a clear understanding on how a “textual” or an ” originalist” interprets the law. It applies to Federal and State legislation as well the Constitution, and they oppose judicial activism. So, for example, the they reversed the judge who ordered Wisconsin to extend the voting deadline . The majority opinion went out of it’s way to criticize the judge for substituting his policy for the one enacted by the Wisconsin legislature. However, they ruled differently in Pennsylvania because there the Legislature enacted the delay.

I’d like to clear up some misconceptions.
    A. Filling open seats is not court packing
    B. This year is not unique. Vacancies have occurred 27 times
in an election year. 14 were confirmed, primarily when the
President and the Senate were in the same party
    C. What goes around comes around. Senator Schumer told
President Bush ( when the Demicrats controlled the Senate)
not to bother submitting an applicant in Bush’s last year.
Bush’s father was told the same thing
    D. Senator McConnel has LEGALLY facilitated the confirmation
of over 200 Federal judges , without any tricks but with the
help of a rule change implemented by his Democratic
predecessor Harry Reid that allowed confirmation
by a simple majority. Reid apparently never thought
that it could backfire if the Republicans retook the
    Senate.McConnell warned Reid that
he was making a big mistake but Reid did it anyway and
made it possible for Trump to appoint so many judges.
    E. Textual, conservative judges are biased but not liberal
    judges?

GH, you’ve displayed an steadfast, unrelenting hatred for the President for the past four years, starting with the disrespectful name that you use.
You seem to have no concept of our Federal system of government when you ascribe responsibility to the President for all or most of the 200,000+ deaths. The states and localities have a major role. Trump provided a Navy hospital ship and had the Corps of Engineers construct a hospital in the Javits Center. However, they sat empty as Governor Cuomo chose instead to force nursing homes to take in Covid patients. It took over 10,000 deaths and 6 weeks for Cuomo to rescind his order.
You seem to have perfect 20/20 hindsight and selected forgetfulness. The Democrats and you claim that Trump did nothing until March. However, in January Trump instituted his travel ban and in February established his commission to run the process and began to ramp up production of masks, ventilators and testing. What were the Democrats doing? Calling Trump xenophobic ( Biden ) , inviting people to visit Chinatown ( Pelosi ) and restaurants ( DiBlasio ) and doing nothing until mid March ( Cuomo ).
Did Trump make mistakes? Of course, everyone did. Did the press take comments out of context ( i.e. claim he wanted to inject Clorox) ? Also of course. Did the CDC and Dr Fauci flip flop on masks? Yes.
GH, what is the major difference between people like myself and Syag and yourself ? It’s the ability to recognize the shades of grey in the actions of our political and medical leaders. We are able to acknowledge his faults as well as his accomplishments. You, and others like you, seem incapable of putting your hatred of Trump aside and consider his positives or Biden’s and the Democrat’s negatives. Could Trump have expressed himself in the past more clearly? Yes, but he is clearly not a racist if you judge him by his actions

Syag, the original intention was to flatten the curve so as not to completely overwhelm hospitals and other medical facilities . I agree with you that these lockdowns were never intended to be long term as recurrences of the virus were anticipated.
While the rate of infections has had spurts, due to our increased treatment knowledge base, the percentage of deaths and hospitalizations keeps dropping.
So, should the lockdowns be ended? Yes as they really aren’t based on science . A Federal judge last week ruled that lockdowns issued by Penn Governor Wolfe were unconstitutional as they violated First Amendment ( freedom of assembly). The judge said the lockdown was arbitrary, not science based as the governor allowed protests with no distancing while sharply limiting or banning other activities. And the lockdowns, by keeping people out of work and sick( noncovid ) patients away from their doctors is causing great damage.
So, should people keep wearing masks and social distancing? I would say yes , if only to be on the safe side
