what about the minhagim we coppied from them?

in reply to: Memoir called "Unorthodox" and its effect on us #868397

I DO NOT WANT to be out on the streets at night.

I WANT to ride in the back of the bus.

When there are guests over, I WANT TO eat in the kitchen instead of at the table with my family.

I DO NOT WANT to drive

If your fine with it, then who are we to argue…..

But, non of the above have anything to do with Halacha…They are chumras and the two should not be confused.

in reply to: Overweight children #850142

Playing sports is the key to good physical and mental health. Unfortunately what they get in school is not enough…

It’s also important to lead by example. Take your kids out, go for a walk, go to the park, kick around a ball with them….Organize games with other kids if no sport teams exist….

in reply to: infertility issues/the blessing of children #918716

Why don’t more people look into adoption?

in reply to: infertility issues/the blessing of children #918704

I am the youngest in my family. Both my older brother and sister are adopted. Doctors told my parents that it would take a miracle to have a child naturally…well miracles happen because here I am!

If you already have children spend your energy on raising them and being the best parent. No sense obsessing about something that is out of control.

If you don’t have children I would seriously consider looking into adoption. You are truly performing a mitzvah and saving a life.

JaneDoe18…”but Zionism has existed since approximately 1897.”

I didn’t know Anti Semitism began in 1897 with the birth of Zionism…I guess my history books that talk about the inquisition and expulsion from just about every European country were wrong…my bad!

    in reply to: Learning!! #844372

Who says you cant have a “torah life” without a full time learner….You can be fully observant and be married to a worker…they are not mutually exclusive.

in reply to: What's the argument against having a Madina? #852421

“The Zionists have inflamed the Arabs (and others in the world, EXACERBATING Esav Sonei LiYaakov) to hate us FAR, far more than they ever did”.

So how do you explain the countless mass murders, terrorist acts and slaying of innocents before the State existed…

in reply to: Shul in Louisville Kentucky #844094

“wow are there any Jews you know of in Tennessee? KY and all down there is weird. I can’t imagine being down there and religious”

Wow, that was a pretty ignorant statement….There are Jews who are frum that live beyond the borders of NY and NJ….

Do some research….there are even Jews in strange places liike Atlanta, New Orleans and even Mexico!!!

I’ve had the pleasure to visit both cities on business…both lovely Jewish comunities…

in reply to: Kiruv advice needed! #842675

” Rabbis who didn’t take their questions seriously. Principals who lied. Teachers who told the one with LD (that was especially pronounced in Hebrew) that he was stupid.”

It’s no mystery why they went OTD….

Unfortunately teachers and Rabbis need to go through training on how to deal with these issues if they are going to teach our children…more often than not they have no training what so ever….

When asked a question that they do not have an answer to the best response is to be honest and say simply “We do not know Sometime there is no clear answer”….

Kids could see right through lies and it can often give them negative feelings towards Yidishkite….

At this point the only thing you can do is include your children and treat them no different than your others. Show them how Yidishkite has made a positive impact on your life…

Judaism is not all or nothing, maybe over time there a certain aspects that they will begin to reincorporate into their lives.

in reply to: Very disturbing, please only kind people read. #842377

Abusive men have 2 extremes…they are either Monsters or are the kindness most sweetest Dad/Husband you will ever meet…That is there pattern.

One minute they can be hitting you and your kids, the next they are helping you with every household chore and reading your kids bed time stories….

But under all that sweetness a monster lies beneath….Do yourself and kids a favour and get Help.

He will be abusive again, the next time it may be worse than a shove and a tongue lashing….

in reply to: I'm speechless #846230

    What makes some hecksher unreliable?

I’ve never really gotten a concrete answer as to why some are not “trustworthy”…what I do get is a lot of Loshan Hora about the Rabbi who oversees the Kashrus agency…nothing specific at all

in reply to: do I have the right? #844043

    zahavasdad…couldn’t say it better myself…

I wish before people started spouting off how this or that is not acceptable and how others are wrong; they take a look at what they are doing…

Just for the record, I have no problem with non-Jewish music or fairy tales as a whole…I make my decision based on language and content.

in reply to: do I have the right? #844039

Cinderella…if I felt the non Jewish music was harmless, I would let my kids hear it.

If I felt the fairy tale was appropriate I would let my kids

    Read it.

I prefer to make my decisions based on specifics, not an entire genre of music or literature.

My point was to stress how silly it is for you to say it is bad just because it’s not Jewish or derived from a non Jewish source. I found it funny how based on your name you were able to rationalize that non Jewish fairy tales are ok, because as I mentioned the majority of them contain very untznius elements…

It just sounds like if you enjoy non Jewish things such as fairytales it is OK, but if it’s

Something you don’t care for its bad…can’t have non Jewish “art” both ways.

in reply to: do I have the right? #844025

Cinderella…I wouldn’t say most of their songs are utter pritzus. Yes there are some; maybe too many, but certainly not all.

There are many good quality inocent songs, that many enjoy listening too…you can’t just say it’s inapropriate…

I’ts hard to take your warning of inapropriateness and assimiliation too seriously, afterall you call yourself “Cinderella” after a very non-Jewish folk tale.

Cinderella goes to a party with plenty of mixed dancing, non Jewish music, (very un tznius)…not to mention the “black magic” used to transform a pumpkin into a carriage 🙂 But I guess Non-Jewish fairy tales are fine with you….

in reply to: I'm speechless #846148

    real-brisker…thank you…

I understand that people don’t follow the OU heksher and prefer a more heimishe one…I can respect that…

My point was other than a sticker, there is no difference, no separate runs…everything is exactly the same….

A sticker on top of another hecksher, saying this is more “valid” when there is zero difference….that I can’t follow….At least put it in a completely different package and have the heimish hecksher part of the packaging…not a silly sticker.

the more heimish sticker has done nothing to make the twizlers more stringent than the ones that have the OU…other than putting their sticker on top of the “OU”…

If the OU isn’t good for some, I don’t see how a sticker magically makes it more stringent…why not just keep it as is and put a note near the “twizler”; display saying

“We the Heimish Hecksher are satisfied with the this product certified by the OU”

When a company puts two heckshers on it, the price of the product is passed on to the consumers. Heckshers is suppose to be a service…it should be run like that…not a “for profit” business…

Two Heckshers with no difference in the manufacturing using the same original package is simply repetitive for no reason and probably keeps costs higher than they should be…

And there was no reason to shout!!!

Sorry for shouting. We always write in bold, though.

It seemed like you were accusing the hashgachos of some sort of wrongdoing in marketing their service. I apologize if I misread.

in reply to: I'm speechless #846143

I’ve noticed that twizzlers has on OU on it, which for me is good enough…

However where we buy groceries the twizlers has a secondary sticker slapped clumsily on the front of the package stating it’s only kosher if this sticker is on it…

When I compared the two packages the one with the OU and the one with the OU and “sticker” there was zero difference….

It looks like one kashrus agency has strong armed the company into getting 2 heckshers on it. They probably told twizlers that many Jews don’t respect the OU and they need the additional hecksher….

I have no problem with this, but if the “sticker” hecksher is more stringent, shouldn’t they have an entirely new package not just a silly sticker slapped on??

This conundrum has left me speechless!?!

That makes no sense. Strong armed?

There are plenty of chassidim who won’t eat the OU, and the frummy brands do separate runs with a heimishe hechsher. I don’t know why you’d make crazy accusations when there is a simple answer that everybody knows.

Health…I caught that you didn’t say a “boring work day”….figures I know your probably allergic to an honest day of work 🙂

in reply to: 8 year old gets spit on by chassidim #840150

Health…why do you feel the constant need to trample on MO? It’s clear you don’t agree with their philosophy, but there is no need to continuously bash, especially when the great majority of what you say shows that you are clearly misinformed and lack any basic understanding…

And how did MO get brought into this discussion anyway? What does MO have to do with a man spitting on an 8yr old girl? Are you claiming that because the child is MO it was justified? (eventhough there is no indication the child was MO, not that it should matter).

Is it because the spitter is Charedi, then according to you he was automatically in the right and the girl and her family brought this on herself?

Because, this is what it sounds like…

Anyhow; keep up with your nonsensical posts, they provide me with great amusement during an otherwise boring work day.

    in reply to: Embarrassed #840830

I know there is a thread on it, but I’m referring more to a major news site carrying the story and making us look like fools….to the outside world a Jew is Jwe, they don’t see the difference.

RT-well said….People have become more concern with how they appear to others, instead of appearing to Hashem….

Hiding sexual predators, forcing families not to call the police, scolding children because their shirt isn’t white enough, mocking those who want to learn and work, the list goes on….this is why we continue to face some of the tough situations we face….

Many spend their life learning Torah, very few actually get it.

What’s the big deal…A lot of fear mongering, a lot of people calling it wrong, a lot of people who aren’t backing up their statements with a clear halachic argument on why it’s wrong…and saying it goyish or it’s just wrong is not good enough….

in reply to: What's the Idea with College? #835494

I will advocate that all my children go to university. I will do my best to steer them in a direction, where a good education will lead them to meaningful careers (Accounting, Law, Medicine, Finance).

My children will be self sufficient and earn incomes that will allow them to send their kids to Yeshiva and thus be able to Pay the FULL Tuition.

They intern, teach their children the value of education, career, making a good living and becoming self sufficient.

I will have enough confidence in them and their Jewish Education, that they will make the right decisions and act accordingly at all times.

I will not shelter them and create fear in order to keep them suppressed…

They will balance Work, Family and Learning just like their father and Grandfather(s) before them….

in reply to: Articel on NY Post Web-site on religious Jews child abuse #832515

Even if only one child was abused, and it was covered up that to me is a huge problem. The amount of victims and cover ups is insignificant….One is to many…

Being a Jew is to forma relationship with Hashem, too many have forgot this and are trying to forge a relationship with Humans taking everything they say as 100% true, not questioning…And if you voice your opposition in some communities you are seen as a trouble maker, shun and threatened by the community. People are afraid to speak the truth because they are fearful of the repercussions….Intimidation and is a huge factor in the conspiracy of silence…

Ask questions, challenge and follow your heart….there you will find the truth.
